Magnesia offers a wide variety of technical products designed for many common as well as unique industrial applications. A broad selection of natural or synthetic, basic to high purity, dead-burnt to highly reactive, light to heavy mineral compounds are available. PAINTS & INKS Magnesium compounds are needed in the production of resinates for the ink industry, to serve as offset gravure printing ink vehicles. CONSTRUCTION Magnesium oxide and Magnesium chloride are the essential components of Sorel cement for industrial floors. Magnesium oxide is used in fast-setting road patching compounds. PVC In PVC formulations Magnesium oxides and hydroxides are commonly added in stabilizers, often improving the final physical properties in cable, pipe, film and profile compounds. Calcium and Magnesium based minerals are known functional fillers. PLASTIC Various metal oxides can be found in plastic formulations as filler, acid acceptor or thickener. Magnesium hydroxide is a non-acid and halogen-free flame retardant and smoke suppressant filler with many advantages compared with ATH. In addition carbonates, chlorides and stearates are important additives and functional fillers. RUBBER Mineral oxides, hydroxides, carbonates and stearates are used in the rubber industry in many ways: as curing agents, acid scavengers, anti-scorch additives or fillers in compounding process. Carbonates are needed as fillers in these applications. CCM DENTAL Fused magnesium oxides with different activities are used in phosphate-based investments and for alginate-based impression materials. CERAMICS & ADHESIVES Natural Magnesium carbonate is a basic ingredient in ceramic products. In addition special magnesium oxides are used as electrical insulation fillers, for technical ceramic components and various adhesive formulations. WATER TREATMENT & RECYCLING Magnesium oxide and hydroxide powders neutralize acidic water and precipitate dissolved metal impurities. They are common ingredients in various industrial cleaning processes. COMPOSITES- SMC (SHEET MOULDING COMPOUNDS) Magnesiumoxides and hydroxides are present in most SMC formulations for better homogenization and optimizing viscosity. During compounding Calcium and Zinc stearates are necessary additives as demoulding agents. AGRICULTURE & ANIMAL FEED Magnesium oxide is used as a source of magnesium in animal feed, mixes and calf milk. Magnesium compounds are added as supplements in a diverse range of fertilizers. CHEMICAL INDUSTRY Magnesium oxides, hydroxides and carbonates are used as a starting point in the production of other magnesium chemicals and for ph control in chemical reactions. Most minerals play an important role in manufacturing of base chemicals, intermediates and processing aids. PULP & PAPER Magnesium oxide and hydroxide are used in the sulphite pulping process and as a magnesium source and stabilizer in bleaching procedures.
