These magnets are designed to keep pressed on their undersides loads cast iron or nonstainless steel to lift them. 1-2 Period of warranty RM2M guarantees its products for a period of 1 year from the date of departure of our workshops. 1-3 Execution of the warranty RM2M guarantees its products against all manufacturing defects, for use, as described in this manual and in original condition. Our warranty is understood material delivered in our workshops and applies only in our workshops (transport in our workshops is your responsibility, return is at our expense, only after proof of our responsibility). We are solely responsible for our equipment and until proven to be deficient in our manufacturing. This warranty applies to all equipment. The warranty does not extend to parts that may be damaged by improper use, or damage caused by mechanical malfunctions (shocks, crushing,...) or electrical (electrical contact, lightning,...). It is obvious that equipment that has suffered the problems described above, as well as modifications and improper use will not be taken as collateral. 1-4 Remarks RM2M is not responsible for the bad use (eg use for lifting very thin and / or greasy parts), mishandling, modification of the magnet or failure to follow the instructions in this manual, by the user. RM2M is not responsible for direct or indirect incidents, as well as damages that may result from these various prohibited actions. 2

Chapter 2 Precautions for commissioning and use 2-1 Preamble Our equipment has been studied, manufactured and tested according to the most stringent quality criteria and in compliance with the legislation in force (CE certificate in annex). 2-2 Precautions Never activate the operating handle, without steel plate of substantial thickness under the magnet, otherwise risk of destruction of the magnet. Before operating the magnet handle, make sure that the steel piece to be lifted is larger than the size of the soleplate of the magnet. Only a person trained to use a magnet of this type is authorized to use this magnet. Disassembly, even partial, of this material is not allowed. Changing this magnet is not allowed. It is forbidden to leave a load permanently suspended under the magnet. Under no circumstances should a suspended load be placed under the magnet. It is forbidden to shock the magnet. It is strongly recommended that you do not handle a load with a magnet. It is strongly recommended not to rock a magnet charge. It is imperative that you never strike a magnet hanging part when handling it. It is imperative never to weld a piece suspended under a magnet. Lifting devices must be equipped with all the necessary safety devices and comply with the safety and approval regulations in force. Despite very important resistance criteria, these magnets must not be exposed to excessive stress, shock, pressure, temperature, humidity... The installation of the magnet must be carried out by a competent and authorized person. It is strongly recommended to use this magnet only on clean parts (non-greasy, not oxidized, painted, nor wrapped or protected by more or less non-magnetic materials,...). It is imperative to have a perfect knowledge of the part to be handled (metallurgical characteristics, thickness, geometry of the part and in particular the part in contact with the magnet, surface condition, flatness, roughness, gap, cleanliness, surface in contact with the underside of the magnet), take into consideration the charts described in the following pages and calculate the magnetization force of this magnet according to the different criteria of use and application, before using this magnet and lift a room. At start-up, limit the important accelerations because the dynamic effect, due to the "take-off" speed of the load (moved by your device), is to be taken into consideration, because this dynamic effect fictitiously increases the value of the charge. 3

Use the magnet in a temperature range not exceeding -15 C to + 55 C (5 to 131 F) Never immerse in water or spray this magnet with water. This magnet must never show signs of oxidation. After use, store this magnet in a clean, dry place, with temperatures between -20 C and + 65 C (-4 to 149 F), with the lever in the demagnetization position. For any concerns or questions regarding this magnet, it is best to stop using it and contact your supplier. This list is a series of non-exhaustive measures. It can evolve according to the legislation, your processes and your particular security rules, etc. For any doubt, please contact your supplier. 2-3 General The contents of this manual may be modified without warning as soon as necessary. We reserve the right to add new features to this type of material. These products are protected by different patents and protections, and they are not allowed to be copied without permission. 2-4 Reaction and actions against magnetization defects At the slightest detection of a magnetization fault, please move away from the load and carefully rest the load, then contact your supplier. 4

Chapter 3 Informations of the produit, installation & use 3-1 General Informations The handling magnets (LM series) are designed to magnetize and handle flat or cylindrical (ferrous) metal charges in contact with the underside of the magnet. The magnetization force depends on many parameters: - The composition of the steel or cast iron, the parts to be handled - The thickness of the parts to be handled - The actual surface of the part in contact with the magnet - The shape of the parts to be handled at the point of contact with the magnet - The flatness of the sheets and the concentricity of the cylinders - The surface condition of the part to be handled (particle size of the surface) - The cleanliness of the contact surface of the part to be handled - The gap between the magnet and the noble metal of the piece to be magnetized - The ambient temperature of use So, The larger the parts to be handled, the greater the magnetic looping and the greater the magnetization force. The more the parts to be handled will have a composition rich in iron, the greater the magnetic looping and the greater the magnetization force will be important. The more the parts to be handled will have a large surface in contact with the underside of the magnet, the greater the magnetic looping and the greater the magnetization force will be important. The more the parts to be handled will have a clean, smooth, plane (sheet) and concentric contact surface (cylinder), the greater the magnetic looping and the greater the magnetization force. The more the parts to be handled will have a surface devoid of all types of non-magnetic elements forming an air gap (paint, packaging, dust, residues, calamine, filings,...), the more the magnetic looping will be important and the more the magnetization force will be important. 5

Thus, because of the many components influencing the magnetization quality, it will be imperative to know perfectly the part to be handled and its environment in order to calculate and determine the real value of magnetization to be able to work safely. For this, user training in handling magnets is imperative. 3-2 Assembly of the handle A handle and a screw are provided with the magnet. Before using the magnet, it is necessary to mount the handle on the magnet. Insert the handle A in the hole of the axis of the magnet, in the direction of the arrow of the label glued on the axis, or marking on the axis and with the protection of the button downwards. Turn the handle A on itself so that the screw B can be screwed into the thread of the handle (lock on the magnet side), then screw the screw B firmly, but without excess. Note: If after the fact, there is no more label and the handle A has been dismounted (so, more in the axis of the magnet), the axis is perhaps no longer quite in the good position. Before putting the handle A back on the axis of the magnet, it is necessary to check the correct positioning of the axis. To do this, reposition the spindle by gently turning it counterclockwise (max 1 / 12th of a turn) in order to reposition it correctly with respect to the magnet, then only after, insert the handle A in the correct hole in the shaft and replace the screw B. Button protection Location of the handle clamping screw 6

3-3 Installation, suggestion and method This handling magnet is intended to operate under a hoist hook or overhead crane. Check that the magnet's hanging eyelet is large enough so that it does not get caught on the hook of the lifting device. Lay the magnet on a clean surface (suspension eyelet at the top) Lower the hook of the lifting device Retract the safety latch Pass the hook through the magnet suspension eyelet Put back the safety latch (or close the hook in the case of a self-closing hook) Raising a few centimeters the magnet with the lifting device The magnet must be suspended under the hook Check that the magnet can swing freely around the hook If this is not the case, contact your supplier So the magnet is installed under the lifting device 3-4 Use Recommendations First of all, the magnet and the parts to be handled with the magnet must be clean. Before any magnetization, the load to be magnetized must be perfectly known to the operator, and all the parameters affecting the magnetization must be taken into account by the operator to ensure that the part will be perfectly magnetized and to be handled. safely. Depending on the surface quality (flatness and roughness) and the amount of carbon or non-ferrous alloy contained in the part to be handled with the magnet, the power of the magnetization can vary in significant proportions. Thus, depending on the metallurgical and geometrical characteristics of each piece, it is necessary before any magnetization to calculate the magnetization power. As indicated in the following tables, the surface condition and the composition of the part favor or hinder the magnetization in the proportions indicated. In addition, the shape of the part influences the magnetization power. Thus for a cylindrical shape it will be necessary to take into account a reduction of 50% of the magnetization power, compared to the magnetization of a flat load. 7

Each magnet has its own magnetization characteristics, defined by the tables below. The value of the air gap must be taken into account, due to any non-magnetic parts or particles (non-magnetic) (dust, plastics, foundry crust, paint, filings, glue under the magnet or the piece...) can be between the magnet and the part to be handled, because they affect the power of the magnetization. The greater the thickness of this non-magnetic layer (gap) is important the lower the magnetization power. In addition, the thickness of the part enters a large part in the calculation of the magnetization power. The thicker the piece, the better the magnetization. The lower the air gap, the better the magnetization Effects of surface condition on magnetization Class Surface state Power S1 Finishing after machining very fine machine 125% S2 Finishing after machining standard machine 100% S3 Coarse finish 90% S4 Rough cast iron 65% Magnetization power according to the materials constituting the part to magnetize : Class Density of carbon and / or non-ferrous alloy Power M1 Low carbon density and / or non-ferrous alloy 100% M2 Average density of carbon and / or non-ferrous alloy 85% M3 High density of carbon and / or non-ferrous alloy 75% M4 Cast iron and mildly alloyed steel of non-ferrous metals 65% Magnetization characteristics of each magnet as a function of the thickness of the parts to be handled and possible air gaps. The gap and the thickness of the parts are reported in millimeters. The magnetization forces are in kilograms (see following tables). The curved line corresponds to the magnetization force in% with respect to the thickness of the piece to be magnetized (see following tables). 8

The straight line corresponds to the magnetization force in % with respect to the gap between the magnet and the part to be magnetized (see following tables). Example of calculating the magnetization force in relation to the thickness if you use a magnet LM 1000 and if you want to lift a flat load of thickness 20 mm. According to the abacus LM1000, the part must never exceed 63% of 1000 Kg, therefore less than 630 Kg, (see curved line). 9

(If you wish to lift a cylindrical part, a 50% decrease in the magnetization value must be applied). Example of calculating the magnetization force in relation to the gap if you use a magnet LM 1000 and if you want to lift a flat load with a gap of 0.6 mm. According to the abacus LM1000, the part must never exceed 77% of 1000 kg or less than 770 kg, (see straight line). (If you wish to lift a cylindrical part, a 50% decrease in the magnetization value must be applied) Example of a complete calculation of the magnetization force as a function of all the parameters. In the case of a magnet with a nominal force of 600 Kg (a magnet type LM600) used at a temperature of 20 C (68 F). The calculation formula is : T x S x M x G x Load capacity T = Thickness S = Surface state M = Materials making up steel G = Between iron Data concerning a flat sheet: T = 25mm (a value with the abacus = 82%) S = S3 (a value with the table = 90%) M = S45C (a value with the table = 80%) G = 0.5mm (a value with the abacus = 75%) Thus, for the calculation of the magnetization force of a LM600, with the above elements, we find: 82% x 90% x 80% x 75% x 600 = 265 kg Note 1: At start-up, the dynamic effect due to the "take off" speed of the load (moved by your device) is to be taken into consideration, as this dynamic effect fictitiously increases the value of the load. Note 2: We can see the importance of the different components significantly affecting the magnetization force. Very important : Make the calculation of the magnetization force before any magnetization. 10

3-4-5 Magnetization Once you have ensured the perfect match between the load to be lifted, the magnet, the lifting means, the environment of this set, the ambient temperature, the placement of the magnet on the lifting means, and the magnetization value determined by the calculation, gently place the magnet on the part to be lifted (the magnet bottom on the top of the part to be lifted). The entire lower surface of the magnet must be in contact with the workpiece and the center of gravity of this part must be under the center of the magnet. Manually hold the magnet in position and turn the handle (lever) to the ON position until the end stop. Check that the handle is locked in this position. From this moment, the piece is magnetized and is attached to the magnet, and you can handle this piece. At the slightest problem, contact your supplier Demagnetization Never demagnetize if the part you are handling is not installed, and is not safe. Put the piece gently on a stable support. Once you have ensured that the room was safely placed (for people and the environment,...), you can stop the magnetization. Manually hold the magnet in position, then press the safety finger (to unlock the handle) and turn the handle to the OFF position to the end stop (Do not let go of the handle). From this moment the piece is separated from the magnet. 3-5 Maintenance Due to its design, simplicity and robustness, this magnet requires little maintenance. This magnet must remain perfectly clean, with perfectly legible labels. This magnet must not show signs of oxidation. 11

Regularly check the wear condition of the hanger ring of the magnet. Regularly check the correct operation of the handle locking system. Regularly check the magnetization force. If the magnet has been tampered with, contact your supplier. If in doubt, contact your supplier. 3-6 Periodic inspection We recommend a check of the good functioning and the state of the magnet at least every 6 months, with corresponding calibrated charges, of known nature and characteristics, by an approved organization or contact your supplier. 3-7 Transport & storage The devices leave the factory packed in cardboard boxes (or wood depending on the models). In their original packaging, their transport does not require any special precautions, while remaining in standard transport standards of good quality. Storage must be carried out in a dry atmosphere and in temperatures between -20 C and + 65 C (-4 to 149 F). 3-8 Technical characteristics Ambient operating temperatures: -15 C to + 55 C (5 to 131 F) Safety factor : 3x the rated load Finishing: Chromed and painted steel Dimensions: see following table 3-9 In case of failure If the handling magnet seems to be malfunctioning, please place the load on the ground (load that may be hanging under your hoist). After having secured your (hoist) device as well as the test area, check the correct operation with a suitable and known load with the utmost care. If your magnet does not seem to work properly, please contact your supplier promptly. If your operating handle is broken, please contact your supplier promptly Spare parts list Because of the high level of safety, apart from the operating handle, there are no spare parts. In case of problem, please contact your supplier. 12
