The polymer immobilizes the constituents of the polymer system (delusterants, catalyst residues, etc.), which, therefore, present no likelihood of exposure under normal conditions of handling. However, exposure to chemical substances may occur as a result of processing this polymer. Molten polymer or prolonged air-drying of polymer at temperatures above 200 C will release small quantities of acetaldehyde ( CAS # ) and volatile degradation products. THE MOLTEN MATERIAL WILL PRODUCE THERMAL BURNS! SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES Skin Contact The material is not likely to be hazardous by skin contact but cleansing after use is a good industrial practice. If burned by contact with molten material, cool as quickly as possible, do not peel material from skin and get medical attention for thermal burn. Eye Contact In case of contact, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention. Inhalation The material is not likely to be hazardous by inhalation. However, if exposed to fumes move to fresh air. Get medical attention if sympthoms persist. Ingestion Ingestion is not an expected route of exposure during normal use. SECTION 6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Leak and Spill Procedures Stepping or walking on chips can cause falls : Avoid accumulation on floors and walkways. Sweep or scoop up and dispose properly. SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE Storage Requirements Store the product in a closed covered area protected from dust and environmental agents since they can deteriorate the product or affect its performance. Handling Procedures and Equipment Avoid contact with molten material, cool the material with plenty of water before handling and wear protection equipment. The interior of molten masses may remain hot for some time due to low heat conductivity. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Accumulation of resin on hot machine surfaces should be avoided to minimize the possible generation of volatile decomposition products, which may be irritating, toxic and combustible. The amorphous polyester at a temperature of 110 C ( 230 F ) or above starts a crystallization process. In the case of the clear resins this crystallization process turns the resin appearance to a milky color. For this reason, high temperatures should be avoided during the handling of the product specially in conveying systems where high temperatures can be developed from friction, restrictions or closed turns in the pipes. Acetaldheyde vapors, which are released in small quantities from molten polyester are potent irritants.
