3 What is TIG? The term Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), refers to the use of a nonconsumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld, normally in combination with a filler metal. During the process, the weld area is shielded from atmospheric contamination using argon, or a similar gas. A constantcurrent power supply ensures arc stability. Why choose TIG? TIG welding produces exceptionally clean, high quality welds. As no slag is produced, the chance of slag inclusions in the weld metal is eliminated and the finished weld requires virtually no cleaning. TIG welding may be used for welding almost all metals and lends itself to both manual and automatic operation. Offering the skilled welder greater control, TIG welding is most extensively used for welding aluminium and stainless steel alloys, where weld integrity is crucial. It is widely used for high quality joints in the nuclear, chemical, aircraft and food industries. 3

4 Three families same goal ESAB provides almost unlimited choice by offering power sources, control panels, cooling systems and welding accessories in flexible combinations for every welding requirement. One thing is always the same - ESAB quality. Customers can select power sources from three families : Caddy (portable units), Origo (standard mid-range applications) and Aristo (for the most advanced applications). Full control For less demanding applications, an easy-to-use control panel may be specified. For applications that require a high degree of flexibility and extreme precision, or advanced software for increased productivity, a more advanced control panel can be specified. Complying with all EU and international standards, ESAB welding equipment provides safe and consistent performance, in even the harshest conditions. 4

5 Caddy Tig mobile functionality For repair, maintenance and craft applications The Caddy family is already a classic. With more than 30 years experience of inverter technology, these fifth-generation portable units introduce a new benchmark in weld consistency, quality and ease of operation. The Caddy Tig 1500i/2200i units are for quality TIG-welding of alloyed, nonalloyed and stainless steel, while the greater flexibility of the Caddy Tig 2200i AC/DC unit permits TIG-welding of all types of material, including aluminium. Full control of arc cleaning, penetration and width, electrode preheating for different shaped electrodes and extended electrode life are all features of the Caddy Tig 2200i AC/DC. The units also offer true MMA welding characteristics, with hot start and arc force settings. They are compactly designed, with impact resistant polymer and aluminium casings. Generously dimensioned OKC 50 cable connectors and large efficient heat sinks ensure cooler running and longer life. All sensitive internal components are kept clean and dust free. PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuits maintain full range performance, even with a 16 A fuse. They also protect against fluctuating mains voltage, make using a generator safer and enable operation over an extended area (with an optional >100 m mains cable). IP23 certified, they can be used outdoors too even in rain. Simple controls Select a suitable control panel from the two panel groups. Both have all the necessary functions for TIG DC, AC/DC (with HF-start or LiftArc ) and MMA, in a simple layout. The TA33 and TA33 AC/DC panels make TIG welding easy. Just set plate thickness and it figures out the rest, leaving you free to focus on the weld. Welding current, slope down and post-gas can also be adjusted manually. The TA34 and TA34 AC/DC panels offer more advanced functionality, including Pulsed TIG for improved heat control and Micro Pulse, for pulse times down to s. High quality TIG welds Excellent arc strike and QWave arcstabilization ensure superior weld quality in both DC and AC mode, with all types of material and in thicknesses up to 7 mm. With the True AC rating function, set current and true welding current are always the same to guarantee consistent weld quality. Compact flexibility Quality TIG-welding in all types of material (AC/ DC) or alloyed and non-alloyed steel, stainless steel and cast iron (DC). Easy to use all welding settings presented in a logical way. QWave enables AC welding with high arc stability and low noise. AC frequency and balance control (TA34 AC/DC) optimises weld pool. Electrode preheating (TA34 AC/DC) excellent start and extended electrode lifetime. ESAB two-program function (TA34 and TA34 AC/ DC) able to pre-program and change program during welding. DC Pulsed TIG welding (TA34 and TA34 AC/DC) easy control of heat input and weld pool. DC Micro Pulse (TA34 and TA34 AC/DC) minimize heat-affected zone, especially on thin sheets. True MMA welding characteristics (TA34 and TA34 AC/DC) in AC and DC mode Hot Start, Arc Force and polarity switch (DC). Extra-long mains cable for extended working radius. Applications Repair and maintenance. General light fabrication and civil construction. Process industry. Shipbuilding and offshore. Transport and mobile machinery. Ancillary equipment Water cooler. Remote controls. Trolleys. TIG torches. 5

6 Origo Origo Tig industrial-scale muscle The Origo family of robust heavy-duty inverter power sources combines proven technology and smart software to provide a durable, flexible and cost-efficient solution for industrial TIG applications. These machines are designed for welding professionals operating in harsh environments: civil construction, contracting, foundries, pipe workshops, shipyards and the offshore industry. Used in both light industry/repairs and heavy-industrial applications, the Origo family forms the core of the ESAB range. These industry workhorses are available in several practical configurations, providing a reliable and cost-efficient solution to most welding requirements. From the compact Origo Tig 3001i to the powerful Origo Tig 4300iw, the Origo family is dedicated to dependable, accurate and consistent performance. Three panels multiple functionality Like the portable Caddy range, Origo Tig power sources are available in DC and AC/ DC versions, with basic or advanced control panels. A strong and reliable 300 A inverter power block, the Origo Tig 3001i power source can be supplied with a TA23 control panel for all basic TIG and MMA welding settings, or the advanced TA24 panel, for full TIG and MMA DC functionality. With the TA23, welding current, slope up/ down and post-gas can be adjusted. The high-end TA24, with pulsed TIG welding and a dual-program function, provides the welder with broader choice, greater precision and increased functionality. For TIG AC/DC welding there is a choice of either Origo Tig 3000i AC/DC or Origo Tig 4300i AC/DC. Both are supplied with the advanced TA24 AC/DC control panel. Consistent weld quality The key to high-quality TIG welding is arc stability. Whether equipped with a basic or advanced control panel, your Origo Tig unit will ensure excellent arc strike and stabilization for superior weld quality, in DC or AC mode. With the True AC rating function, set current and true welding current are always the same for consistent weld quality. Rugged dependability Quality TIG-welding of aluminium, aluminium alloys and magnesium alloys (AC mode) or stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron and copper alloys (DC mode). Easy to use all welding settings presented in a logical way. QWave enables AC welding with high arc stability and low noise. AC frequency and balance control (TA24 AC/DC) optimises weld pool.
