30 EC MOTOR APPLICATION EC MOTORS Mtrs With Built-in Variable Speed Optinal E Fan/mtr Cde Units with an E (in nmenclature) mtr designatin use an EC (electrnically cmmutated) mtr / fan cmbinatin t prvide variable speed cndenser cntrl. ECM fan/ mtr cmbinatins use DC mtrs with integral AC t DC cnversin allwing direct cnnectin t AC mains with the energy saving and cntrl benefits f a DC mtr. Ideally the mtrs n the cndenser shuld all be EC and simultaneusly slw dwn /speed up tgether. This prvides fr maximum energy savings. Hwever sme applicatins may exist where just the last fan r pair f fans (nes clsest t header) are slely EC mtrs. (The remaining cnventinal type mtrs are then cycled ff by fan cycling pressure cntrls).! Imprtant Warnings: (Please read befre handling mtrs) 1. When cnnecting the unit t the pwer supply, dangerus vltages ccur. Due t mtr capacitr discharge time, d nt pen the mtr within 5 minutes after discnnectin f all phases. 2. With a Cntrl vltage fed in r a set speed value being saved, the mtr will restart autmatically after a pwer failure. 3. Dangerus external vltages can be present at the mtr terminals even when the unit is turned ff. 4. The Electrnics husing can get ht. 5. The cycling n and ff f EC mtrs shuld be cntrlled by the DC cntrl vltage (i.e. 0V DC will turn mtr ff). Excessive cycling f the mtr by line vltage cntactrs may cause stress n the mtrs and reduce the mtr life. Speed adjustment Characteristics The EC mtr varies its speed linearly based n a 1-10V input signal. At 10 VDC, the mtr runs at full speed. At 0 t apprx. 1 VDC, the mtr turns ff. A chart f the speed cntrl curve is shwn belw. The mtr can be cntrlled at any speed belw its nminal RPM. Cntrl Signal The input cntrl signal can be supplied by an external cntrl signal r frm a factry installed prprtinal pressure cntrl. Units with factry installed prprtinal pressure cntrls require n installatin wiring and are adjusted with initial factry settings. These may require further adjustments t suit lcal field cnditins. External Cntrl Signal (Supplied by thers) Cntact cntrl manufacturer fr setup f external cntrller t prvide a 0-10 VDC cntrl signal. Wire the cntrl signal t terminal bard in unit cntrl bx. Refer t the cndenser EC wiring diagram fr typical external signal cntrl wiring. Prprtinal Pressure Cntrl (Factry Installed) Units equipped with factry installed P352 cntrls use a prprtinal plus integral pressure cntrller t vary and maintain the mtr speed at the desired head pressure. This maintains a minimum cndensing temp at the crrespnding pressure set pint. Typical R404A set pints are frm psig. (i.e. 78F - 89F Cndensing Temperature). Nte: Very lw set pints may cause the fan mtrs t run full speed cntinually even if the cndenser is prperly sized. The fans will turn ff if the system pressure falls belw the desired set pint. 31 Minimum Output The minimum utput ptentimeter cntrls the minimum signal sent t the mtr and is factry set at 0%. It is adjustable between 0 and 60% f the utput range. If this is adjusted t 50%, the mtrs will nt start running until 5V is applied t the mtr. The mtr will start running at 50% f full speed. T maximize sund reductin and energy savings and t prvide the mst stable cntrl, it is recmmended this setting be left at 0%. Thrttling range The thrttling range ptentimeter cntrls hw far the system pressure deviates frm the cntrl set pint t generate a 100% utput signal frm the cntrl and is adjustable frm psig. The thrttling range determines hw quickly the mtr will reach full speed when detecting a change in head pressure. Fr example, if the set pint is 190 psig and the thrttling range is 50 psig, when the system pressure is belw 190 psig, the fans will be ff. When the system pressure reaches 240 psig (190+50) the fans will be at full speed. T make the fans ramp mre slwly the thrttling range shuld be increased. T maximize sund reductin and energy efficiency and t prvide fr the mst stable cntrl, it is recmmended this setting be left at 100 psig. EC MOTOR APPLICATION Direct Acting (DA) mde. Failure t ensure J1 jumper is in direct acting mde will cause the system t trip n high head pressure. Integratin cnstant The integratin cnstant switch prvides ability t change cntrller frm a prprtinal nly cntrl t a prprtinal plus integral cntrl. T prvide the mst respnsive system and t maintain a stable head pressure, it is recmmended the integratin setting be left n fast with the Mde switch set t OFF (Prprtinal AND Integral activated) O N FAST (n) MEDIUM (ff) SLOW (ff) EC MOTORS OFF (set fr PROPORTIONAL / INTEGRAL MODE) Reverse acting r direct acting mde f peratin The reverse acting/direct acting jumper is used t ensure the cntrller respnds crrectly t the desired head pressure. In Direct Acting (DA) mde, the mtr speed increases as the pressure rises abve desired set pint. Fr prper cndenser peratin, this jumper MUST be in Transducer Wiring The P352PN cntrls use a P266 (P399,r P499) pressure transducer t generate a 0.5 t 4.5 VDC input signal.
