The total for the current month included 206,699 tons of basic Iron, 17,837 tone of foundry iron and 46,422 tons of malleable Iron. Ferro-alloja - Output of ferro-alloys in July amounted to 12,124 tone compared with 11,997 tone in the previous month and with 15,508 tone in July of a year ago. The following alloys were produced: ferrosi ii con, ci licomanganese, ferro-manganese, ferroebroma, ohrom-x and ferrophoaphorua. Steel Ingots and Castings - Production of steel ingots and steel castings during July, 1953, totalled 323,385 tons compared with 293,072 tons in July of last year. Output in the month under review included 315,203 tons of ingota and 8,182 tone of castings. Primary steel shapes - Shipments of primary shapes by Canadian steel mills, exclusive of prothtcers' interchange, totalled 238,597 net tons in July, 1953, compared with 270,235 tons in July, The July shipments included 7,600 tons of semi-finished shapes, 17,054 tons of structurals, 15,962 tons of plates, 18,774 tons of rails, 7,174 tons of tie plates and track material, 37,564 tons of hot rolled bars, 22,959 tons of pipes and tubes, 17,584 tons of wire rods, 36,405 tons of black sheets, 7,926 tons of galvanized sheets, 8,126 tons of castings, and 41,469 tons of other rolled products. The amount of producers' interchange was 123,216 tons in July, 1953, as against 132,799 tons in July, Of the amounts shipped for sale during July, 40,441 tons went direct to railways and railway car shops; 10,605 tons went to pressing, forming and stamping plants; 21,819 tons to merchant trade products; 36,547 tons to building construction; 22,430 tons to the containers industry; 5,993 tons to agricultural equipment; 20,129 tons to the automotive industry; 11,026 tons to machinery plants; 1,425 tons to shipbuilding; 14,296 tons to mining, lumbering, etc., and 7,497 tons to miscellaneous industries, including national defence and public works and utilities; wholesalers and warehousing accounted for 35,511 tons, and exports for 10,878 tons. Producers' interchange, or the tonnage shipped to producers' own works for further processing, totalled 123,16 tons in July.
