2 About Huntsman Advanced Materials Huntsman Advanced Materials LLC is a leading global supplier of chemical building blocks and synthetic polymer systems for customers requiring high-performance materials which meet or exceed the properties, functionality and durability of traditional materials. Over 2,000 associates at more than 20 locations worldwide work to fulfill this promise every day. The primary markets we serve include: Aerospace Automotive Adhesives Composites Coatings Electronics Power Wind Electrical Engineering Market For over 50 years we have supplied our customers throughout the world with insulating thermoset materials for insulators and bushings, generators, switchgears, distribution/instrument transformers, and motors for utility and industrial applications. Our comprehensive product portfolio consists of high-performance epoxy-based and polyurethane-based systems which are free of any volatile organic compounds (VOC) and thus offer an environmentally safer alternative to solvent-borne systems. The products formulated by Huntsman are designed to provide an extended service life and meet specific industry requirements for electrical insulation in indoor and outdoor environments. They are supported with a comprehensive technical data package which may include thermal conductivity, mechanical properties, shrinkage, water absorption and flame retardancy properties, to name but a few. Many of our products are UL recognized and are designed to be compatible with insulation media such as air, mineral oil, SF6, mixtures of insulating gases (e.g., SF6 and nitrogen) or vacuum conditions. In addition, many of our products are suitable for high-temperature or sub-zero service conditions. Huntsman has received ISO 9001, QS 9000 and TS certification for its quality management. Meeting these stringent requirements is just one additional way we strive to exceed our customers expectations by supplying consistent quality products and value-added technology. 2

3 Huntsman s Commitment to REACH & Sustainability We re on a journey to create a more sustainable business While Huntsman has experienced tremendous growth with more than 30 acquisitions since 1970 our basic core values and strong business ethics continue to be the foundation for our business success. We know that operating responsibly is important to ensuring a long-term sustainable future for our business, associates and investors, and fundamentally critical for society as a whole. We have a clear vision We see a better world in which our innovations help reduce consumption of natural resources and improve the quality of life for people everywhere. We see a work environment that encourages our associates to improve their es by reducing resource consumption and turn waste streams into profitable products, creating and sustaining jobs and enhancing the bottom line. We see a company that not only boasts a strong balance sheet, but is also an active contributor to society and a champion for protecting our environment. Huntsman is committed to REACH For the team at Huntsman, REACH is not simply a matter of registering products. Compliance and a commitment to product safety are central to our business and deeply embedded in our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program. At Huntsman we have established a REACH Implementation Team (RIT), a group of in-house experts whose knowledge and dedication ensures that our legal obligations are met and that we can build competitive advantage for our customers. Actively engaged in the European chemical industry s journey to a single regulatory system, the RIT helps guide industry consortia; serves as Lead Registrant for key substances; and works closely with our own supply-chain partners to ensure that milestones are met on time. Huntsman is managing its registrations and proactively preparing for other REACH developments, including any restrictions and authorization. In addition, we are developing the in-house systems to manage the longterm compliance with REACH affecting new product development, new substances and changing suppliers. Throughout we will continue to liaise with customers, partners and industry contacts, to ensure timely and effective resolution of any new REACH issues, and thus ensure continuous compliance. 3

10 Generators and Motors Araldite and Aradur casting and impregnation systems can be used in virtually all insulation components of motors and generators thanks to their high mechanical strength, strong adhesion to various metals and substrates, and their excellent dielectric properties. Their low viscosity provides an excellent impregnation to the electrical parts. The trend towards generators and motors with increased power output, higher integration density and reduced size requires materials with very high temperature resistance and which can withstand extreme thermal cycling during service. 13 Glossary of Industry Terminology Properties Standards Definitions Density ISO 1183 The mass per unit volume of a substance under specified conditions of and temperature. ISO 2555 Measure of the resistance to flow of a fluid under shear force. Gel Time ISO 9396 Time taken for a thermosetting compound to solidify or to reach the point where it no longer flows. Glass Transition Temperature ISO Temperature at which an amorphous substance will transform from a glassy to a rubbery state. Thermal Conductivity ISO Heat flow per unit area divided by the temperature gradient [W/mK] Thermal Class IEC Thermal Classes: Y = 90 C, A = 105 C, E = C, B = 130 C, F = 155 C, H = 180 C, K = 200 C, M = 220 C Shore Hardness DIN Resistance against the penetration of a body of specified shape, applied under a specific load. Tensile Strength ISO 527 The tensile strength is the maximum stress that a material can withstand while being stretched or pulled before failing or breaking. Flexural Strength ISO 178 Characterizes the ability of a material to resist deformation under load. Elongation at Break ISO 527 Also known as fracture strain. It is the ratio between changed length and initial length after breakage of the test specimen. Modulus of Elasticity ISO 527 Also known as Young s Modulus. It is used to characterize the stiffness of a material by expressing the ratio of the stress applied to a substance to the strain that results in the substance in response to it. Dielectric Dissipation Factor Tan IEC The dielectric dissipation factor tan δ of a material indicates the electrical losses of the dielectric. It is the tangent of the dielectric loss angle δ. The dielectric loss angle δ of an insulating material is the angle by which the phase difference between applied voltage and resulting current deviates from 90 degrees, when the dielectric of the capacitor consists exclusively of the dielectric material. Relative Permittivity IEC The relative pemittivity of an insulating material is the ratio of capacitance of a capacitor, in which the space between and around the electrodes is entirely and exclusively filled with the insulating material in question, to the capacitance of the same configuration of electrodes in vacuum. The permittivity of an insulating material is the product of its relative permittivity, and the electric constant (or permittivity of vacuum). Dielectric Strength IEC IEC (1998) Fracture Toughness Internal test PM double-torsion test (for prefilled material) ISO bend notch test (for unfilled material) The dielectric strength is the quotient of the breakdown voltage and the distance between the conducting parts between which the voltage is applied under prescribed test conditions. The double-torsion test and the bend notch test are controlled crack propagation methods for measuring the energy required to propagate a crack. K1C, critical stress intensity factor: K1 defines the stress field around the sharp crack; the fracture occurs when K1 reaches the critical value. K1C. G1C, specific energy of fracture: measure of resistance to crack propagation in a material under static load. The higher the values of K1C and G1C, the tougher is the material. Comparative Tracking Index CTI IEC The comparative tracking index is the numerical value of the maximum voltage at which five test specimens withstand the test period for 50 drops without tracking failure and without a persistent flame occurring and including also statements relating to the behavior of the material when tested using drops and the depth of erosion. 13
