Wilsonart is a laminate manufacturer based in Temple, Texas, USA with a worldwide presence. This new partnership of expertise and coercial experience presents Polyrey with scope for product innovation, decor development and the centralisation of logistics.

5 polyrey and the environment As a responsible organisation coitted to the protection of the environment, Polyrey leads an active policy to reduce the impact of its activity on the environment throughout all stages of the manufacturing process and life cycle of its products. From an early stage, Polyrey introduced environmental procedures monitored via a process of total quality. As a result the respect of the environment is a daily concern in all our activities. All of our suppliers share our environmental philosophy. The whole Polyrey organisation is driven by the principle of Total Quality. All our factories and market units have ISO 9001 version 2000 certification. Origin of raw materials Polyrey factories are PEFC certified for the supply of core board. PEFC is a trademark guaranteeing that the woods used in the manufacturing process are sourced from sustainable forests. As an alternative to wood based core boards, Polyrey has developed a melamine faced plasterboard product, a material which contains less formaldehyde and has better fire retardant properties. Removal of heavy metals and toxic products Polyrey uses neither heavy metals, such as chrome, mercury or lead, nor toxic components containing antimony, barium, cadmium or selenium in its production processes. Polyrey has improved its manufacturing processes in order to reduce the level of methanol present in its products. Water and energy management Polyrey is making constant efforts to improve the efficiency of its processes by reducing its consumption of water and energy through the recycling of its waste products. For example: the consumption of water sourced from the Dordogne river for the factory in Couze has been reduced by a factor of 10 over a period of 15 years; waste products are burned and converted into steam to operate the presses without the need for additional sources of energy. Reducing the environmental impact Polyrey monitors its solid, liquid and gas waste and limits noise in order to reduce the environmental impact of its activity. For example: n Water pollution: water pollution is monitored on a daily basis. Polyrey s achievements throughout the monitoring process (quantity, temperature, ph ) are higher than DRIRE* requirements. Over the last 10 years, the release of nitrogen has been reduced by a factor of 19 and the phenolic index by a factor of 24. n Air pollution: in 1997 Polyrey installed a treatment plant for volatile organic compounds where dust is filtered, stored in silos and burned to produce energy. n Noise pollution: the level of noise has been reduced by the introduction of noise dampening machine housings as well as external noise reduction measures. n Recycling: recycling has been standard practice for a number of years in all areas. 80% of waste products are either converted into energy or recycled by specialised companies: the re-use of pallets, recycling of paper, cardboard and plastic, resale of scrap metal * Regional institute for industry research and the environment P E F C / PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT Volume of water consumed during production in m 3 per year
