3 Some examples of FeyeCon developments in food technology Extraction of highly volatile essential oils CO 2 technology facilitates selective isolation of individual constituents, resulting in improved product quality. The process is carried out in an inert atmosphere, thus considerably enhancing the shelf life of perishable products. Our extraction process takes place at relatively low temperatures which makes it suitable for the isolation of temperature sensitive compounds. Melt Micronization of a ductile structuring agent Our process involves dissolving CO 2 under pressure into melted soft material followed by rapid depressurization of the mixture. With the materials obtained by Supercritical Melt Micronization, one can have instant structuring agents for food products. Soft materials (for example; fat and other ductile edibles) can be micronized to a powder with size range as small as 200nm which makes it a superior alternative to cryogenic milling. Our structuring agent is

4 suitable for application in different kinds of food products such as spreads, margarines, ice cream, whipped cream, mayonnaise, shortenings, sauces, dressings, soups, sausages, chocolate, confectionary and cosmetics. We know-how! High quality drying Currently high quality drying is largely obtained through freeze drying, this being an energy intensive process often leading to texture loss. In contrast, with our patented drying process supercritical CO 2 is used as water transport medium instead of air. By the regeneration of the CO 2 the carbon footprint is lower compared with freeze drying. Due to the gentle process conditions and short drying cycle-time, our method preserves the products structure resulting in improved taste, texture and appearance in both dried and rehydrated state. Another advantage of pressurized CO 2 drying is that it helps inactivate micro-organisms, eliminating the need for blanching or other pasteurizing steps.
