1 OXYPLAST BELGIUM N.V./S.A. Hulsdonk 35, B-9042 Gent-Mendonk, Belgium Phone +32 (0) Telefax +32 (0) info@oxyplast.be - Website: OXYPLAST POLYESTER POWDER COATING PE50 A TGIC-Free Polyester Powder Coating DESCRIPTION Polyester resins, the basic components of outdoor thermosetting powders, have been used since 1975 for the decorative protection of outdoor material and particularly Architectural Aluminium. The long experience accumulated with polyester powders in this application field, particularly with OXYPLAST PR29, based on carboxylic polyesters and the highperformance hardener Triglycidyl isocyanurate, has ensured reliable results for what weather and corrosion resistance is concerned. These polyester powders have a very good reputation in the world of architectural aluminium. Since the start of powder production in 1964, OXYPLAST BELGIUM has always kept a leading position in innovation, considering the chief advantages of powder coating as an environmentally friendly coating product. As part of its continuous technology development, OXYPLAST BELGIUM has aimed to introduce new thermosetting systems showing equivalent performance as "Polyester- TGIC" powders. This work has led in the early 90 s to the introduction of a new coating product: OXYPLAST PE50, a TGIC-FREE outdoor durable powder coating, that received already in 1992 a Qualicoat certification (class 1: normal durable / category 3: gloss % at 60 ). SPECIFICATIONS OXYPLAST PE50 fulfils the most important specifications used for the decorative and protective coating of Aluminium, namely : QUALICOAT: Approval number P-0081 GSB (Germany): Approval number 140b British Standard BS V.M.R. (Netherlands) PE50/ENG-06/13 1

OXYPLAST PE50 powder coatings can also be applied by means of tribo guns. The curing will take place in a suitable convection oven. Curing schedule: 10 minutes at 180 C (metal temperature) WARNING One should take care of the following parameters during application and curing of OXYPLAST PE OXYPLAST PE50 must be cured at 180 C (metal temperature) and preferably not above 200 C. * SEE CURING CURVES FOR MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SCHEDULES. 2. OXYPLAST PE50 will be applied at prescribed film thicknesses i.e. between 60 and 120 micron. 3. OXYPLAST PE50 is partly compatible with OXYPLAST PR29. For example, a dry-blend of 50% PE50 and 50% PR29 will give a gloss drop of 10% compared to pure PE50. Before switching over from PR29 to PE50, one should thoroughly clean the powder application plant as well as the reclaim devices like cyclones, filters, sieves etc. PE50/ENG-06/13 2

6 Building materials Mastics / Sealants Storage stability Storage of finished pieces : OXYPLAST PE50 is compatible with normal building materials. For more information, refer to OXYPLAST BELGIUM. : Before the application of a sealant the coating needs to be degreased. Some degreasing agents may influence the gloss or the aspect of the coating. An efficient degreasing, without affecting the coating aspect, is being obtained with Multi Foam (Novatio) or an equivalent product. A good adhesion between the PE50 coating and the sealant is obtained with the following sealants: Sealtrans (Novatio), Seal&Bond SIL25 (Novatio), or an equivalent product. Refer to OXYPLAST BELGIUM for detailed information. : Due to a high glass transition temperature, OXYPLAST PE50 powder can be stored for at least one year at a temperature of 25 C. : OXYPLAST BELGIUM advises to pack finished pieces in such a way that aspiration is possible, in order to preventing local condensation. Furthermore, OXYPLAST BELGIUM advises to store packed pieces in a dry room, in which contact with direct sunlight is avoided. In the event of storage of finished pieces in poorly ventilated packing, in extreme cases, under the influence of condensation and direct sunlight, local discoloration of the coating may occur for dark colours. This discoloration can be undone by locally heating the surface of the pieces for a short time to approximately 150 C. The heating process can be done by means of a paint stripper, gas burner for shrink foil, a powerful hairdryer, This treatment will not affect the aspect of the coating. All the information given in this Data Sheet is the result of our research work and experience. It is given in good faith and with every belief in its accuracy but cannot be considered as a formal warranty. In accordance with OXYPLAST BELGIUM policy of product development, this specification is subject to change without notice. PE50/ENG-06/13 6

8 OXYPLAST PE50/TRX+9006HR/73/180 OXYPLAST PE50/TRX+9007HR/73/180 COATING RAL9006 & RAL9007 ANNEX TO THE TECHNICAL DATA SHEET PE50 DESCRIPTION OXYPLAST PE50/TRX+9006HR/73/180 and PE50/TRX+9007HR/73/180 are thermosetting polyester powders based on outdoor resistant resins and bonded aluminium pigments with an increased outdoor resistance. Thanks to the special formulation the optimal effect of a RAL9006, resp. RAL9007 will be obtained. APPLICATION With OXYPLAST PE50/TRX+9006HR/73/180 and PE50/TRX+9007HR/73/180 the RAL9006, resp. RAL9007 effect has been optimized. To achieve this result, without any colour differences, these coatings have to be applied in film thicknesses of at least 90 µm. REMARK In contradistinction to the normal RAL-colours, finger marks on metallic coatings cannot be removed by simply rubbing with a cloth. They can nevertheless be easily removed with a soft household detergent. This is why a transparent topcoat is recommended for substrates that are frequently touched. The same topcoat is recommended for applications where colour changes can be caused by friction such as, for example, handrails. PE50/ENG-06/13 8
