3 Grinding and Cut-Off Wheels Material, Power Tools, /Task Three steps to select the correct tool Material Power tool /task Tool In order to ensure the most cost-efficient use of grinding and cut-off wheels for hand-held power tools, it is necessary to select the right tool for the individual application. In our application recommendations for grinding and cut-off wheels we have taken into account the power output (watts) of the most common angle grinders in relation to the material and machining task at hand. This distinction is reflected in the following table. 4 Grinding and Cut-Off Wheels Maximum Operation Speed, Safety Standards, Mounting System Maximum operating speed The maximum operating speed (m/s) is shown on the product labels and product packs by a colour bar in accordance with the specifications of EN The maximum permissible RPM specification applies to the nominal diameter of the tools. 56 Diamond Cut-Off Wheels Notes, Detailed Recommendations for Use Recommendations for use 1. Always observe the directional arrow shown on each PFERD cut-off blade. 2. Never work without a protective machine hood. 3. Wear protective glasses. 4. Keep workpiece adequately supported throughout the cutting process. 5. Do not apply pressure when cutting; the machine weight provides sufficient advance. Do not tilt the rotating blade. 6. Avoid overheating. Allow blade to cool down by running the machine in idle mode. 7. Cut deeply. Always try to cut through the entire workpiece depth with a single cut. Move blade gently up and down while cutting (oscillation). PFERD diamond cut-off blades are used dry. When working on especially tough materials such as concrete with high gravel content (exposed aggregate type), the cutting blade is liable to overheat. This condition is clearly indicated by rotating sparks appearing around the circumference of the blade (see picture). To prevent damage to the blade, stop cutting at once when this effect occurs! Allow blade to cool down in idle mode for a brief period. If the sparks recur afterwards, resharpen the blade segments using our PFERD sharpening block (see page 55).
