10 Technical data... Radial deep groove ball bearing design xiros plastic ball bearings are single-row grooved ball bearings based on DIN 625. The self-lubricating and maintenance-free bearings are made up of four components: The outer and inner races The capabilities of xiros plastic ball bearings are largely determined by the materials of the two races. The outer and inner race are made of igus Tribo-plastics, designed to maximize service life and minimize friction. The races are available in five materials, which differ in values of temperature capacity, chemical resistance and price. The table of materials provides more information on races. Outer race Inner race Cage Balls The cage The material of the ball bearing cage must be compatible with the application. The various material options vary in chemical and temperature resistance values. The cage materials also work well with all xiros race materials. The balls Balls are available in steel, glass or plastic. These materials differ significantly because they have a large disparity in mass, which in turn affects smoothness, weight and chemical resistance. Steel balls (stainless steel) are cost-effective and chemical-resistant, but they are the heaviest of the three materials. Glass balls offer a non-metallic alternative, and they are very chemical-resistant with an average weight. The igus plastic ball bearings made from PAI have significant advantages in weight, size, chemical resistance and noisedampening properties. Other designs xiros radial deep groove ball bearings The other designs include: Convex rollers, which can run directly on a profile Casters Multi-bearings for linear and radial movements Flange bearings for solutions such as installation in tube ends Double row bearings for absorbing higher forces Pillow block and flange bearings These bearings are made by combining xiros plastic ball bearings with igubal pillow block and flanged housings, resulting in higher installation flexibility. The pre-finished bearing housing makes it easy for the user to work with these maintenancefree components. Both flanged and pillow block bearings are available in fixed or pivoting designs. Pivoting designs can compensate for shaft and/or bearing misalignment, while fixed designs cannot. The pivoting design has a spherical outer race that is pressed into the bearing housing, ensuring self-aligning action. The inner bearing can also be pivoted in all directions if necessary. Therefore, possible misalignment of two bearing points can be compensated. Development and tests Numerous tests have been conducted by igus to optimize the race materials. Polymers have been developed for use with ball bearings to have higher speeds, greater loads and longer service life. Even so, the development continues. igus believes that plastic ball bearing technology still has room to advance, especially considering the development of tribological polymer materials. The service life and wear of xiros plastic bearings are examined in the igus test laboratory. In addition to the actual material comparison, test results provide data on the impact of external influences such as temperature, humidity or dust. 10

The high number of test results make it very difficult to present this information in tabular form.
