Clean Energy Partnership CEP Strong partners engineering a zero emissions future A lighthouse project within the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Program (NIP) Breakfast at Sustainability s, Brussels November 12, 2009 Ulf Hafseld, Leading Business Developer New Energy, Statoil
Common approach across branches, research and development for an emission-free future for cars and buses CEP A lighthouse project within the NIP
CEP Strong partners from all industrial sectors The German federal Government Energy and Technology: Linde Shell Hydrogen StatoilHydro TOTAL Vattenfall Europe Car manufacturers: BMW Daimler Ford GM/Opel Volkswagen Public transport: Berliner Verkehrs Gesellschaft BVG Hamburger Hochbahn HVV
CEP Technology wise one of the most versatile hydrogen projects in Europe More than driven kilometres with hydrogen More than 3000 hydrogen fuellings Two new partners Sustainable increase of existing stations and cars Technology development e.g. introduction of a fully automatic LH2 automotive fuelling system
Why Clean Energy Partnership and Hydrogen Technology... Creation of new jobs Germany as a place for business and innovation Economy Environment Everyday life Ensuring a low- / zero-emission energy supply Ensuring clean mobility Ensuring hydrogen from diverse energy sources Being extremely flexible
Creating new jobs Automotive and refuelling technology
Most suppliers of a hydrogen fuelling station are small and medium sized enterprizes > employees < 100 employees More than 75% of the suppliers of the hydrogen fuelling station are high tech small and medium sized enterprizes employees employees
Why Clean Energy Partnership and hydrogen technology... Creation of new jobs Enhancing Germany as a place for business and innovation Economy Environment Everyday life Ensuring a low- / zero-emission energy supply Ensuring clean mobility Ensuring hydrogen from diverse energy sources Being extremely flexible
Enhancing Germany as a centre of business and innovation Dry piston compression Automotive fuelling system
Ensuring a low- / zero-emission energy supply Hydrogen is a clean energy source which is odourless, invisible and nontoxic The availability of hydrogen in bound consistency is almost unlimited. Through the use of energy together with electrolysis or steam reforming hydrogen can be separated from its compounds Hence hydrogen can be made from renewable energy sources by using electricity Hydrogen allows the utilisation of sustainable energy within the public transportation field The usage of hydrogen does not produce any carbon dioxide emissions With hydrogen, sustainable electric mobility becomes a real possibility
Ensure clean mobility New cars and more cars Planned cars for phase II: GM Opel HydroGen4 BMW Hydrogen7 Ford Focus Fuel Cell Daimler B-Class F-Cell VW Tiguan HyMotion3
Why Clean Energy Partnership and hydrogen technology... Creation of new jobs Enhance Germany as a place for business and innovation Economy Environment Everyday life Ensuring a low- / zero-emission energy supply Ensuring clean mobility Ensuring hydrogen from diverse energy sources Being extremely flexible
