1 Purpose: To support the College in the achievement of its ambition through its greatest resource, its people. To provide guidance and support to Managers on all areas of HR, employment law and best practice. Advise managers and staff on the Company s HR policies and procedures and provide guidance on their application and or implementation as needed. Ensuring the College is able to attract, engage and recruit talent to meet its needs. Ensure compliance with all regulatory/statutory requirements of the role. Context: Reporting to the Bursar, working with the Principal of Senior School and Head of Junior School will have HR responsibility for Teaching and Non-teaching staff. HR Strategy: Work with the Bursar & Principal to develop and implement an effective strategy for HR across the College - to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours among staff that will help the College reach its goals. Review, update, create and manage the introduction of all HR policies necessary to implement the HR strategy. Managing Human Resources to support long-term goals and outcomes with the strategic framework. Provide innovations to improve and enhance existing systems and processes. Provide information and advice to line management and staff on change management initiatives and contribute as part of a team to the implementation of change management initiatives. Education and qualifications: Educated to degree or CIPD qualification level. CIPD member. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of HR systems and processes. Employment Legislation. Project Management. Quality Systems. HR management practice. Employment law. HR information systems. Experience: Strong working knowledge of Human Resources practise required with relevant HR management experience. Working in an education environment would be an advantage but not essential. Familiarity with drafting policies and guidance. Negotiating complex agreements. 1/9

2 Recruitment Process Bursar for non-teaching appointments. Recruitment Process Principal of Senior School and Head of Junior School for teaching appointments. Dimensions: Full-time. Working Hours 37.5 hours per week. Additional attendance may be required outside normal working hours to support school business. HR Manager is a key member of the Bursar s Team and is expected to provide regular briefings to the Governors and Senior Management Team (SMT), and to attend SMT meetings for HR-related agenda items. Recruitment & Selection: Ensure that the College s recruitment procedures and records are effective and manage the process for the recruitment of all new employees, Governors, agency staff and volunteers/visitors following Safer Recruitment guidelines. Maintain an accurate HR Database and regulatorycompliant Single Central Register for all recruited staff with the school. Organise induction programmes for all new staff and ensure these are fully implemented and recorded. Manage the HR aspect of Recruitment & Selection from authorisation to induction stage. Work with recruiting Managers to ensure a comprehensive recruitment and selection process including effective associated policies, documentation, agency management, assessment & selection, induction etc. Skills and Abilities: Shares the School s ethos and treats all with respect and consideration. Genuine interest in children and school life; displays willingness to contribute to the School community. Has a sense of humour. Proficient user of Microsoft office. A strong communicator, both in writing and spoken communication. Articulate and confident with facilitation and presentation skills. Effective Interpersonal skills with an ability to deal with difficult situations. Problem-solving skills. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Good project management skills with a track record of delivering quality products on time and on budget that meet the business need. 2/9

3 Provide support and advice on recruitment to Line and Departmental Managers in terms of methods and practices for recruitment & selection Policy Management and Regulatory Compliance: In co-operation with, and under the direction of, the College Compliance Committee and Bursar: Ensure that the School s policies are compliant with all relevant regulatory requirements. Assist in the effective communication of school policies and procedures. Work with the SLT to develop and maintain effective processes for ensuring that these policies are followed in practice, including ensuring appropriate training and development. Works efficiently and effectively, actively looking for ways of improving services and outcomes for colleagues. Works well with colleagues but also able to work on own initiative. Sensitive to personal information and treats it with utmost discretion. Displays a can do positive attitude. Flexible in prioritising work; open to change. Keeping up to date with developments by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses. Excellent communicator both in writing and verbally, and in delivering presentations to different audiences with the ability to instil confidence in all. Ability and desire to see (and influence) the overall picture while having an unfailing eye for detail. Willingness to take responsibility. 3/9

4 Manage a process for ensuring that all policies are reviewed on a timely basis by the appropriate staff or Governors committee and any changes are recorded and put into practice. Maintain a register of all the School s policies, including review timescales and accountabilities and a log of evidence that the policies are followed in practice. Maintain the School s Risk Register on behalf of the Bursar, liaising with staff and Governors as necessary to ensure that the Register properly reflects the perceived risks to the School, is reviewed and updated, and that agreed mitigating actions are carried out and recorded. Be responsible to the Bursar for ensuring the School s compliance with regulations on data protection and related matters, including retention of information policies. 5 Act as clerk to the College Compliance Committee, including preparation and circulation of papers, attendance at meetings, taking minutes and ensuring that action points are followed up. Maintain and update all statutory and in-school policies in line with national and/or local guidance annually. Performance Management: Assist with performance management and appraisal procedures for all staff. Ensure that the Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Handbooks are kept up to date and communicated effectively to staff. Working with senior Management to co-ordinate Succession Planning and manage performance issues. 5/9

6 Employment Legislation: Keep up to date with changes in HR legislation, guidance and good practice and advise the College accordingly. Manage a process for ensuring that all policies are reviewed on a timely basis by the appropriate staff or Governors committee and any changes are recorded and put into practice. Ensure compliance with HR legislation, guidance and good practice, Independent Schools Inspectorate requirements and the College s HR policies. Training and Development: Develop the College s staff training policies, procedures and methods. Ensure the effective induction of all new staff, both teaching and non-teaching. Advise senior managers on appropriate staff training and development procedures. 6/9

7 Co-ordination of staff training needs following performance management reviews. Remuneration and Benefits: Keep under review and advise the Bursar & Principal on the range of benefits and salary packages available to staff (liaising with the College Accountant). Provide a link between staff and the College s Independent Financial Adviser with regard to pensions and other retirement benefits. Support the Governors Remuneration Committee in reaching pay award decisions for teaching and non-teaching staff. Communication/Employee Engagement: Work with the Bursar & Principal on further developing communications with staff. 7/9

8 Work with the Bursar & Principal with regards to measuring and promoting employee engagement. General: Produce reports and statistics as required. Undertake surveys as required. Participate in HR projects as required and support developing and implementation of new policies and procedures. Provide reports and recommendations in regard to workforce planning e.g. staff turnover, diversity, legislative issues. Responsible for the development and management of HR processes and HR information systems at the College. 8/9

9 To manage absence management procedures including return to work interviews, setting up occupational health reviews etc. in order to reduce the impact of long term absence. 9/9
