3 1. Key purpose This role will lead Cancer Council Tasmania s (CCT) evidence based policy and resource development on strategic cancer related research and information relevant to cancer control.

About the role Position title: Department: Status: Hours of Work: Location: Reports to: Research Officer Cancer Support and Health Promotion Services Permanent Part Time.6 FTE (45.6 hours per fortnight) Hobart Director Cancer Support and Health Promotion Key Duties: 1. Oversee the development of evidence based cancer information and resources to enhance CCT activity outcomes across the organisation. 2. Monitor and report on trends in cancer awareness and prevention behaviours. 3. Co-ordinate the dissemination of key cancer control research information and findings. 4. Provide advice on progress and best evidence available regarding cancer control. 5. Ensure key messages, fact sheets, resources and reports are produced accurately and in a timely manner for the website, media opportunities and as a staff resource. 6. Review, update and refine specific CCT advocacy messages. 7. Undertake the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of CCT s advocacy work and deliver regular analysis and updates for Board and staff reports. 8. Support CCT program area activities where specific data is required to develop presentations, submissions and reports 9. Represent CCT on committees or working groups, attend meetings and liaise as required to contribute to cancer control outcomes. 5 3. Selection criteria Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills (Selection Criteria) Relevant tertiary or equivalent qualifications in research, public health or related field. Experience in collating and presenting data sets and research based information. Ability to convey and present complex research information to internal stakeholders in a way that is able to be used across the organisation. Demonstrates high standard of presentation and writing skills. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set and achieve goals and targets, meet tight deadlines and handle competing demands. Proven ability to be adaptable and flexible to achieve results in an environment of change. Excellent interpersonal and team skills with the ability to take a lead role to develop and foster stakeholder relationships. Ability to undertake intrastate and occasional interstate travel and in possession of a current driver s licence.

Conditions of employment Research Officer (Permanent Part Time) Award/Contract: Cancer Council Tasmania Employee Collective Agreement (Currently under review) Remuneration: The role will be paid as SCHADS Level 5, Paypoint 2. Salary is comprised of: Base $35,568 Superannuation (9.5%) 3,379 Leave loading 479 Total $39,426 Cancer Council Tasmania employees are able to salary sacrifice to full value as allowed by the Australian Taxation Office to Not for Profit entities. Salary is payable fortnightly. Leave Entitlements: Hours of Work: Training and Development: Health and Fitness: Probation Period: Four weeks per annum (pro rata). This is a 45.6 hours per fortnight position. It is CCT s desire that every employee be given professional development opportunities. CCT provides in house and external training and development opportunities. CCT does not insist on employees undergoing a pre-employment medical examination; however it is a condition of employment that in accepting this position you are able to perform the inherent requirements of the position. The appointment to this position is subject to a probationary period of six months.

How to apply for the position Cancer Council Tasmania uses a merit selection process which means it selects preferred candidates for positions based on their demonstration of the skills, abilities and attributes to meet the requirements of the position. This is demonstrated through application, interview, practical exercises and referee checks. Candidates are short-listed from the original pool of applicants. The Selection Panel will then interview the short-listed candidates and determine the preferred candidate after referee checks. Referees: Two professional referees are to be nominated who are able to comment on your abilities. 8 6. Background of the organisation Cancer Council Tasmania is a Not for Profit, independent organisation working to minimise the incidence and impact of cancer on all Tasmanians. It is estimated that 1 in 2 Tasmanians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85. To reduce that incidence, and the impact of cancer in our local community, Cancer Council Tasmania: Invests in cancer prevention programs that educate the community about lifestyle factors that can decrease the risk of cancer; Funds local cancer-related research projects and; Provides high quality support services for people with cancer, their families, carers and friends; Provides a respected voice for the needs of people affected by cancer. Our work could not be achieved without the generosity of the Tasmanian community and the support of our dedicated volunteers. Over 90% funded by public donations, fundraising activities underpin our support services, prevention programs and cancer research funding.
