2 hello! We re delighted that you re considering working with us at UEA Students Union - uea(su). We employ over 500 students to work for us in a variety of roles. Our staff are dedicated to delivering the best services to our customers and we all work as a team to constantly improve. We provide great training and we believe in developing people to give them the best possible working experience as well as providing essential skills for their future career; whatever that may be! Providing exceptional customer service at all times Rate of pay for all positions is 8.45 per hour plus 12.07% per hour holiday pay, paid at the end of each term. why work for the SU? Many students seek part-time employment to supplement their living costs whilst at UEA, and equally, many students prefer the convenience of a job based on campus. However, these should not be the only reasons for applying for a job at the union. The union is seeking students who are enthusiastic, can offer a real commitment to their job and the union, can deliver an excellent standard of customer service, and who are willing to develop within the role. In return, student staff gain skills through training, great work experience to put on their CV, a chance to meet new people and the opportunity to contribute to their students union as part of the student leadership programme. what opportunities are suitable for me? Please read through and study the job descriptions describing the various areas of work and duties. You must then decide which jobs most interest you and why. You need to think carefully about the skills and/or abilities you possess. Are they suited to the role as specified in the job description, and would you be able to further develop these skills in your preferred area of work? uea su does offer flexibility to student staff, but we also expect this in return. Virtually every role we offer requires late night, evening and weekend work as well as work during the day. 4

5 advocacy assistant Responsible to: Head of Education and Engagement Purpose of Post: To provide support for Student Officer Committee-related campaigns, projects and activities. The role will involve providing communications, research, operational and administrative support to the student officers and Advocacy department SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Work with the teams that make up the Advocacy Department 2. Work with four other Research, Campaigns and Democracy Assistants to be part of a flexible and interchangeable team 3. Show an interest in Union policies, local and/or national campaigns, social research and/or event management 4. Work with Student Officers and career staff to produce event plans, reports, briefings, presentations, research and other written material as required 5. Create written copy on behalf of the Student Officers in relation to prioritised projects and policies 6. Liaise with other uea(su) staff and departments where cross-su coordination is required for projects, campaigns or events 7. Any other task as directed commensurate with the grade 5

6 welcome desk administration assistants Responsible to: Operations Coordinator, Head of Operations Purpose of Post: To greet members and visitors, provide excellent customer service and administration support to the Welcome team SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To provide the principle point of meet and greet at Reception 2. To answer general enquiries by phone, in person or via 3. To operate booking systems for rooms, stall, and other activities in Union House, processing payments as necessary 4. To sign post enquiries to our website 5. Sign in contracted workers into Union House, issuing permits where needed 6. To record and monitor lost property 7. Photocopying, ensuring a supply of forms for the reception and activities hub 8. To provide administration support to the Operations department including but not limited to data processing, data recording and filing 9. Issues keys as necessary 10. Receive post, parcel, laundry and other deliveries as necessary 11. To ensure LCR and bookable spaces are locked and unlocked as necessary 12. Any other task as directed commensurate with the grade 6

7 shop assistant Responsible to: Shop Manager, Assistant Shop Manager, Supervisors, Team Leaders Purpose of Post: To provide excellent customer service within our retail outlet. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To offer excellent customer service to our customers 2. Display and replace goods for sale within the shop rotating stock as necessary 3. Operate the till ensuring accurate transactions and maintaining daily records using the EPOS system. 4. As directed, undertake checks of cash and stock in accordance with the appropriate procedures. 5. Maintain the sales area, stock room and store rooms in a clean and tidy condition. 6. Carry out all transactions in accordance with the organisation s administrative, cash handling and credit control systems and standards. 7. Be responsible for own safety and ensure that their actions do not compromise the safety of other employees and customers. 8. To receive goods inwards, recording and processing in accordance with existing shop policies and procedures 9. To work within health and safety policies and procedures 10. To have a knowledge of the union, our values and campaigns. 11. Maintain and adhere to the standards for service as set by the Shop Manager in the Shop Standards 12. To attend meetings with the department manager as and when required 13. To attend training sessions and meetings as required 14. Undertake shifts in antisocial hours (such as on the Night Hatch) 15. To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested 7

8 coffee (unio) assistant Responsible to: UNIO Supervisor, Coffee Shop Manager, Team Leaders Purpose of Post: To provide excellent customer service within our Unio outlet. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To offer excellent customer service to our customers 2. Display and replace goods for sale within Unio rotating stock as necessary 3. To make beverages to the required standards 4. Operate the till ensuring accurate transactions and maintaining daily records using the EPOS system. 5. As directed, undertake checks of cash and stock in accordance with the appropriate procedures. 6. Maintain the sales area, stock room and store rooms in a clean and tidy condition. 7. Carry out all transactions in accordance with the organisation s administrative, cash handling and credit control systems and standards. 8. Be responsible for own safety and ensure that their actions do not compromise the safety of other employees and customers. 9. 9 waterfront venues staff Responsible to: Team Leaders, Venue Supervisors, Venue Managers Purpose of Post: To work within the Venues team in a range of roles. At the Waterfront we are potentially operational from to Sunday Thursday, and Friday and Saturday, in which our shift work patterns vary dramatically. All staff would be expected to work their share of late, early, busy and quiet shifts. Certain staff roles will then be developed and training will be provided in specialist aspects for some staff to become experienced/experts in specific areas, including cloakroom and box office. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Attend all mandatory training and any other training your manager feels necessary. 2. To work well within a team, as well as on your own initiative, and report any issues to team leaders or venue supervisors 3. To have a knowledge of the SU, our values and campaigns. 4. Work unsociable hours and late. You may only work a maximum of 15 hours a week in term time. 5. Work well in pressured situations, with high volumes of customers. 6. To monitor any issues relating to UK licensing laws including ID checks, dealing with drunk customers and assisting customers with complaints in line with SU procedures. 7. To serve at the bar/cloakroom/box office/backstage in a polite, efficient and safe manner, upholding the best standards in customer care. 8. Operate the till system and handle cash responsibly in line with due procedures. 9. Ensure the venue is presentable at all times by cleaning and moving/organising furniture. 10. Ensure work area and bar are kept safe and clean at all times, adhering to protocols and checklists. 11. Clean up spills and accidents during events. 12. Restock fridges and move and organise stock, involving lifting cases. 13. Promote events and products to customers. 14. To prepare food safely and efficiently. 15. To adhere to and report any issues related to health and safety relating to yourself, your colleagues and your customers. 16. Undertake any reasonable task as requested by your line manager. 9
