What we offer and where/how to use it MRT System AB develops and promotes machinery for safe removal and retrieval of Mercury. MRT s solutions are based on 40 years of experience guaranteeing the highest level of safety in operation, low cost of operation and highest value of retrieved material. Companies in need of MRT can roughly be divided into 4 groups: PROCESS Several industries uses Mercury as part of their production process, giving waste products that needs to be treated. Examples are Chlorides (Swimming pool) and in gold purification. LAMPS Large lamp producers has a certain percentage of faulty production and therefore an interest in separating lamp components for re-use in their own production. Recyclers of lamps appointed under Producers Responsibility Programs has an obligation to safely treat lamps at end of life time. MERCURY RECOVERY TECHNOLOGY Waste handling of Mercury containing material, like bottom cell batteries, old thermometers, dental waste, soil or other substances somehow contaminated by Mercury, requires very special solutions in order to prevent pollution of our environment. WEEE Flat Panel Monitors and TV s was initially equipped with fluorescent lighting containing Mercury. When recycling these the challenge is not to expose workers and the environment in the dismantling process. The Flat Panels also contains a lot of valuable and re-usable materials, so solutions enabling easy disassembly with little damage to the material is preferred. 3

Lamp Recycling GENERAL INTRODUCTION Product responsible. Defined kretslopp with a clear responsibility for producers to ensure that used lamps are returned and recycled in an environmentally responsible way. CHALLENGE As many of the lamps used are containing Mercury it is important to have the right equipment when recycling lamps. If lamps are crushed together with other items in the normal waste stream there will be a non-controlled contamination of otherwise harmless waste. SOLUTIONS LP A versatile solution which can handle a mix of Tube Lighs and CFL s. Available in several capacities Mix CFL + Fluorescent Tube Lights High capacity and flexible HiDP A highly specialized solution catering for the unique composition of this type of lamps. High intensity Discharge Hard glass Burner contains high quantity of liquid / pure Mercury Requires dedicated equipment to ensure that no contamination occurs. ECM For recycling of Tube Lights, this solution will provide the highest quality of fractions. Highest quality of separation of Tube Lights Ideal for Fluorescent Tube Light Manufacturers Pure glass for re-use in production. 4

Weee GENERAL INTRODUCTION First generations of Flat Panel TV s and monitors where equipped with back and side light containing Mercury. In line with environmental responsibility policies the ambition is to recycle minimum 80% of all Flat Panels at end of life. Faster dismantling More recycled product to sell DMT Work station for safe manual dismantling of Flat Panels and removal of Mercury containing lights. CHALLENGE If the Flat Panel is equipped with side or back lights containing mercury it is impossible to demolish the panels in crusher solutions. In order to remove the Mercury lamps before further dismantling or demolision you need to expose the lamps. A task which today is often done manually. Most panels are designed in a way which makes them very difficult to dismantle making the recovery process very time consuming. SOLUTIONS FPP 60 Safe and Easy removal of lights (Back lights and Side lights) from Flat Panels. WEEELABEX compliant (Mercury) Increase efficiency / profitability in Flat Panel dismantling 5

Mercury Recovery Technology GENERAL INTRODUCTION Given the high level of toxicity/danger in Mercury very small amounts are required to reach a level of alarm. Even with very little amount of Mercury in large volumes of waste the total amount of waste will be classified as Hazardous. With the increasing cost of depositing Mercury there is an equally increasing interest in extracting the hazardous elements in order to reduce volumes. BPD Batch For limited batches of up to 200 liters volume. Suitable for batteries, fluorescent powder, amalgams etc. Production cycle approx. one batch per 24 hrs. BPD Continuous flow For larger volumes of material like soil where a continuous flow is feasible. CHALLENGE When treating Mercury contaminated waste in order to extract and reduce volume you need technology which ensures that the high concentration of hazardous materia is not released into the atmosphere. In short you need a safe way to both extract and contain the Mercury. SOLUTIONS By using a distiller from MRT you will be able to reduce volumes of Mercury contaminated material by up to times. The result is a massive reduction of your deposit cost. 6

After Sales and Service GENERAL INTRODUCTION All machinery is exposed to wear and tear requiring general maintenance. In the long run cost of operation will be hugely influenced by how a company manages its maintenance. CHALLENGE Easy access to parts, on line support and suitable solutions to problems is what defines the difference between suppliers. It is also very tempting to make own solutions which in the short term is cheaper, but can over time have negative effects on the efficiency of the machinery causing increased cost of operation. Regular service and using original parts from MRT will result in Maintained quality Prevention of unnecessary down time You can plan you maintenance and turn arounds An option to get on-line support is offered for many of the MRT models. All MRT slutions have a router installed in the equipment giving our clients the opportunity to get remote support and service of vital functions in the equipment. Nobody knows MRT machines better than MRT. SOLUTIONS When buying MRT equipment we always recommend using MRT certified parts. We also recommend to regularly service your equipment as recommended for your specific solution. Very often MRT service technicians has identified issues relating to lack of service resulting in lower performance of the equipment. 7

KLASIFIED.se JANUARY 2018 One planet Responsibility of all Mercury is a naturally occurring element found in rocks, soil, water and even air. It s the only metal that takes on a liquid form at room temperature and is widely used in the manufactoring of for example lamps, batteries, thermometers, teeth filling and in the gold mining industry. Also residues of mercury often gets mixed with soil, drilling fluids and other bi-products when drilling for oil and gas. WHY IS MERCURY A PROBLEM? Mercury is highly toxic and industrial usage has often lead to leaches and contamination. Mercury exposure at any level can cause damage to the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and immune system basically everywhere! Humans are exposed to mercury mainly via contaminated food especially sea food. Larger quantities of mercury are released when burning hazardous waste or f ex producing chlorine, as well as the improper treatment and disposal of products or wastes containing mercury. Mercury is also found within coal, so when coal is burned, huge amounts of mercury are released into the environment. Regardless of the specific source or method, mercury leaches into the atmosphere and eventually the eco system. SOLUTION A complex problem is of course followed by complex solutions. Laws and regulations, better public awareness, development of new technologies and responsible high end recycling are important components that matters. As an example the EU takes action to protect citizens from mercury pollution. Since 2011 it is forbidden for EU members to export Mercury. There are also rules for storage and deposit as well as safe transport and handling and the Minamata convention on Mercury limits and prohibits the use of Mercury in products and industial processes as of ON TRACK WITH MRT SYSTEM Established in 1979 and first patent registered in 1978, MRT System was the first to introduce a complete recycling system considered to be top of the line when it comes to effiency, reliability and user friendliness. We also provide Distillers for Mining, Oil & Gas, Process industries, Soil sanitation as well as Lamp and Flat Screen recycling. MRT System will be a dedicated partner in taking one of the most important responsibilities of today decreasing the mercury pollution. MRT System AB Lumavagen, SE Karlskrona, Sweden info@mrtsystem.com
