Job purpose The Head of International Communications is responsible for leading on the development and delivery of a global marketing and communications strategy, promote our brand, uphold our key messages and values, and make a credible and compelling case for the charity s approach in helping children in the developing world out of poverty.

2 Key activities Strategic planning and reporting Lead the global communications team and working collaboratively with the Communications Director, Head of Digital, the wider senior leadership and national affiliates contribute to the development, implementation and management of the organisation s communications strategy. Communicate, uphold, and protect Mary s Meals key messages, intrinsic values, and the brand. Global awareness and fundraising Work closely with the Communications Director in ensuring there is coherence and consistency in external communications and branding across the international organisation. Lead on implementing rigorous content development strategy, which guarantees a continuous flow of compelling case study material, photography, videography and other communications collateral from all programme countries and national affiliates in which Mary s Meals is operating. Lead on scoping, developing and implementing new fundraising and profile-raising campaigns, strategies and products, which maximise participation, publicity and income. Lead on the production of multi-language communications and fundraising collateral including publications, publicity materials, volunteer packs, fundraising packs, direct mails and films which reinforce Mary s Meals values and key messages for use by staff and volunteers around the world. Contribute to the development and be responsible for the implementation of a wideranging global media and public relations strategy, working closely with senior communications personnel in the Mary s Meals affiliates to support the execution of tailored press outreach work in their different national contexts. Ensure that the charity s media, public relations and wider communications activities are fully integrated with, and supportive of, our fundraising campaigns, geared towards maximising income and raising awareness of poverty and our response to this issue. Lead Mary s Meals engagement with celebrity supporters and Ambassadors, further developing and defining their role within the charity s communications work. Ensure that the Communications team contributes strongly to the development of effective fundraising campaign ideas, themes and messages, supporting the Strategic Partnerships team which has lead responsibility in this area. Messaging and branding Contribute to the development on the implementation of an innovative communications strategy, ensuring that the charity s key messages and brand are used effectively and professionally. Work with the Head of Digital to contribute to the strategic direction of the tactical use of social media to raise awareness of Mary s Meals, enhance the organisation s reputation worldwide. 3 Implement and oversee the daily operation of a meticulous editorial process for all key communications output. Act as a knowledgeable, professional and engaging media spokesperson for Mary s Meals. Oversee the management of the budget for the communications team, ensuring it is aligned closely with organisational strategy, and monitor, forecast and report on the budget, including justifying variances. Communications team management Lead the communications team, setting clear team objectives (in keeping with the wider communications team strategy) and supporting team development. Ensure integration and collaboration with the editorial and content development strands of the communications team. Provide leadership to the team by providing core expertise, learning opportunities and to foster innovation. Create efficient team processes and ways of working including resource management, timely briefings and management of team projects. 4 Key relationships Reports to: Director of Communications Internal relationships: Head of Digital Internal Communications Manager MMI staff External relationships: National Affiliate Boards & Staff Programmes Staff Direct reports: Content Development Manager Editorial Manager Qualifications, skills and experience Essential Desirable Relevant degree and/or significant experience in communications and leading the function/team Proven experience of developing and implementing communications strategies, policies, procedures and projects and translating these into action Ability to see stakeholders and priorities clearly A proven track record in building capacity and developing a high performing team Track record of successfully managing change Experience working in an international environment A track record of delivering successful projects on time and within budget Able to comfortably and effectively interact with senior stakeholders and a wide range of people in different countries and settings with different levels of digital knowledge.
