2 Christian Fredman and Karl-Gustav Grahn Production and packing Our history MiniMaid a family business with strong values The company name MiniMaid was chosen to describe the founders desire to serve the European market with small and beautiful products. The name was in English due to international ambitions and mini also describes the humble nature of people in Osthrobotnia and Finland. Maid correlates well with disposable tableware. In 1986 Karl-Gustav Grahn and Christian Fredman bought their first Peerless P-34 paper plate machine and a year later the first 15cm (6 ) paper plates were produced. Thanks to Christian Fredmans old export contacts, plates were soon exported to Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom. The first years were not easy due to poor market knowledge, lack of capital, narrow product range and lack of competitive raw materials. The early 1990 s were also difficult because of the bank crisis and a customer bankruptcy that almost ended the business. Surviving these initial problems however gave the company courage to further develop the business. The last ten years have been characterized by focusing on private label production, building one of Europe s biggest capacities of plate production and diversifying both raw material supply and customer base to minimize all kind of risks. MiniMaid has focused on quality and sustainability since the year 2000, when we were among the first small companies in Finland to start working with ISO 9001 quality. We were also a pioneer in Finland by getting the BRC certificate in The needs of our customers has always been our guideline, stated company founder Karl-Gustav Grahn. It was a good philosophy then, and it remains as valid today. Times change, but market orientation is ever so important. MiniMaid s early days were a one-man show, but this has evolved into a team-work approach with a bigger sales force. New products, raw materials and continuously improved automation are also realities of today. 6 OUR PRODUCTION PROCESS 1. MATERIAL SELECTION All of our wood fiber based raw material comes from sustainable and responsibly managed forests that actually have bigger net growth than what is annually harvested. All raw material is also traceable and third party certified by either FSC or Pefc. 1. The preferred carton board quality is selected from a wide spread of alternatives. All to match our customers needs. 7 PRODUCTION 3. CUSTOMIZATION With a production capacity of more than 1 billion plates per year and an output of 5 million plates a day, we can flexibly handle both small and large accounts. The production is highly automated, guaranteeing constant efficiency. Working by the principles of Lean, we strive to improve and excel every day. 8 BIODEGRADABLE CARTON Mini Maid s plates are always made of 100% fresh virgin board and our standard carton types are certified as biodegradable. Carton thickness ranges from 170 gsm to 350 gsm, depending on plate-size. 9 BIO-COATING MiniMaid s bio-coating bridges the gap between barrier and biodegradability. The bio-coating is a thin layer of water-based lacquer that is certified as both food-safe and biodegradable (Vincotte OK Compost). The bio-coating gives plates a barrier that is quite sufficient in all normal situations, making it the natural choice for those who want good all-round plates without having to make environmental compromises. UNBLEACHED PLATES With no bleaching chemicals, just pure carton and a layer of reliable bio-coating, our sturdy brown plates are the latest addition to our constantly evolving range of ecoproducts. Carton thickness is 230 gsm, available in most standard sizes. 10 With our printed plates only the imagination is the limit, we can do everything from simple unicolored plates to intricate photo quality multi-color designs. We can offer an ever-growing collection of stock designs, as well as the possibility to make fully customized designs. We provide high-quality samples prior to production, so you always know what you get before making the purchase order.
