2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY There s nothing like a good old-fashioned government mandate to make a market interesting. Sometimes these federal interventions stifle the private sector, but often they become veritable windfall, as is the case around the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Appropriate Use mandate for imaging CDS suppliers. What was already a growth market of HIT, the mandate has supercharged, with two-thirds of radiology providers planning to pick up a solution before the end of the year. As a result, there are only two categories of suppliers in this space, winners and WINNERS. Over a short, two-week period we received direct feedback from more than 200 radiology leaders about their views and plans regarding the CMS mandate, such as: Do providers believe CMS will keep their updated deadline of January 1, 2018? Preparedness of providers for the requirement Adoption rates Adoption plans and timelines Reasons why imaging providers are not adopting Primary motivations for adopting imaging CDS Imaging CDS market presence Imaging CDS supplier ratings (NPS) Suppliers winning the windfall business Many would agree that improved measures when deciding to order a medical image is good for everyone: suppliers, patients, providers and the general public. In a previous study we conducted, called Unnecessary Imaging, we estimate that up to $12b of image orders is waste, not to mention the unnecessary exposure to radiation. So, we ll chalk this up as a win for the CMS when it actually takes effect. Note: As always, we want to give a massive thank you to the participants of this study. 8 SUPPLIER RATINGS (NPS) Since just two suppliers make up 90% of the market presence of this study, we wanted to highlight their ratings among current customers. We use the Net Promoter Score methodology, which is the gold standard in measuring overall customer satisfaction. Scores range from 100 to is considered positive, 0-30 is neutral and less than zero is...yes you guessed it...negative. However, it's extremely uncommon to see suppliers score higher than 29 in healthcare IT. In fact, the major across all segments fall below the zero baseline. Blame it on the complexity of HIT environments, or whatever other reason makes sense, but it s extremely difficult to meet providers' expectations. A few find ways shine consistently, but in most cases, if you can maintain a non-negative score, you're doing pretty well.
