1 Services to the Hydropower Industry

2 Wolf Creek Dam foundation repairs, Russell County, Ky. From Left: Gaston Hydroelectric Plant, Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Gilboa Dam, Schoharie County, N.Y. We integrate innovative, technical environmental expertise and regulatory compliance support to deliver renewable solutions. With increasing demand for renewable energy, hydropower is becoming more important than ever in our energy portfolio. This created opportunity for new hydropower infrastructure and even more so the need to extend the life of aging infrastructure to maintain safety, regulatory compliance, and increase efficiencies. Gannett Fleming provides expertise in dam safety, planning, design, and construction for dams. We respond to a wide range of water resources needs for our clients, including watershed management, water supply, hydropower, navigation, flood control, and recreation. Gannett Fleming delivers renewable solutions. Our dam projects include earth and rockfill, mass concrete and roller-compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dams, timber crib, slab and buttress, movable crest (steel or rubber gate), and concrete arch dams. Dam Experience Our founder, Farley Gannett, and Gifford Pinchot were friends and associates in 1915 when Gannett opened his firm. Pinchot provided our first design assignment, a concrete dam to generate power and light and heat Grey Towers his country retreat in Pike County, Pa. Out first four jobs all were the design of dams. Since that time, our national Dams practice has grown, with more than 100 engineers and scientists focused solely on dam projects. We have: Designed more than 100 new dams Modified more than 250 dams Evaluated the safety of more than 600 dams.

3 Gilboa Dam construction, Schoharie County, N.Y. From Left: Roanoke Rapids Dam structural investigations, Roanoke, N.C. Lyman Run Dam rehabilitation, Potter County, Pa. Throughout our nearly 100-year history, Gannett Fleming has developed specialized capabilities in the core dam design and engineering disciplines, including geotechnical and geological engineering, hydrology, and hydraulic engineering. We have performed dam investigations and inspections, design for new dams and dam rehabilitation projects, permitting, emergency response planning, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for a wide range of dam owners. We also have experience specific to supporting Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulated hydroelectric facilities, such as Part 12 Safety Inspections and Potential Failure Modes Analysis (PFMA). Qualifications and Capabilities Our firm has designed new dams and rehabilitation projects, as well as dam safety engineering and security services for hydropower facilities. Many of our engineers have worked in the power industry or for regulating agencies and can provide a unique and valuable perspective for our clients. For a period of five years, we performed services at hydropower facilities owned by Dominion. These services include structural movement and seepage investigations, exploratory drilling, instrumentation installation, structural stability and petrographic analyses, FERC Part 12 inspections, and PFMAs.

4 Final design of fishways, Norristown and Phoenixville, Pa. Gannett Fleming completed conceptual and final designs for fish passage facilities at dams owned by Exelon. Key features of the fishways included a supplemental attraction flow system regulated via a valve vault; an automated adjustable gate at the entrance; and a viewing room with camerabased fish counting facilities. The fishway entailed debris shedding aspects such as deck grating, trash racks, and careful orientation of the exit channel. Design elements were prepared by our landscape architect for a park setting location. in accordance with FERC requirements for dam owners. We provide a security compliance course for utility companies, which gives an in-depth review of the FERC Division of Dam Safety and Inspection (D2SI) requirements for hydropower project security programs and practical exercises in the use of FERC s Dam Assessment Matrix and Security Vulnerability Risk (DAMSVR) assessment methodology. Other services performed for Exelon include geotechnical subsurface explorations, cultural resource investigations, contract document preparation, water diversion plans, construction phase support, operation and maintenance manuals, and new dam startup services. Gannett Fleming also has significant experience in providing security assessments and preparing security plans
