5 Contributor Add-in for Excel Installation Guide This guide describes how to install the Cognos Planning - Contributor Add-in for Excel. Cognos Planning provides the ability to plan, budget, and forecast in a collaborative, secure manner. There are two major components: Cognos Planning - Analyst Analyst is a flexible tool used by financial specialists to define their business models. These models include the drivers and content required for planning, budgeting, and forecasting. The models can then be distributed to managers using the Web-based architecture of Cognos Planning - Contributor. Cognos Planning - Contributor Contributor streamlines data collection and workflow management. It eliminates the problems of errors, version control, and timeliness that are characteristic of a planning system solely based on spreadsheets. Users have the option to submit information simultaneously through a simple Web or Excel interface. Using an Intranet or secure Internet connection, users review only what they need to review and enter data where they are authorized. 7 Chapter 1: Install Cognos Planning - Contributor Add-in for Excel After installing the Contributor Add-in for Excel, you can view and edit Contributor data using Microsoft (R) Excel formatting and linking functionality. System Requirements Before you install the Contributor Add-in for Excel, ensure that your computer meets the necessary software and hardware requirements. Requirement Specification Operating System A Windows workstation product, such as Windows 2000 Professional. Internet Explorer 5.5 and above. RAM Microsoft Excel 128 MB Microsoft Excel 2000 and above. It is important to apply all required operating system patches and to use only the versions of third-party software that are supported for Cognos products. Otherwise your product may not work properly. For a complete list of software environments and versions supported by Cognos products, see the Product Information page of the Cognos support Web site ( Tips: We recommend that all users have the same version of Excel installed. Prerequisites - Administration Only To enable the use of the Contributor Add-in for Excel on client computers, you must first ensure that you install the same version of Cognos Planning - Contributor on all computers. If you have a previous 7.3 version of Contributor Add-in for Excel installed on a computer, you do not need to uninstall before installing the current version. If you have a version of Contributor Add-in for Excel prior to 7.3, you must uninstall it before you can install a later version. For more information, see "Uninstall Contributor Add-in for Excel" (p. 8). If you install the Contributor Add-in for Excel on a computer, you cannot subsequently install Analyst or Contributor Administration Console on that machine. You must uninstall the Contributor Add-in for Excel before installing Analyst or the Contributor Administration Console. Stop Cognos Services If you have other Cognos products installed, you must stop all Cognos services before installing the Contributor Add-in for Excel. Steps 1. From the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. Installation Guide 7

8 Chapter 1: Install Cognos Planning - Contributor Add-in for Excel 2. In the Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services. 3. In the details pane, right-click on a Cognos service, and then click Stop. 4. Repeat step 3 for every Cognos service in the details pane. Install Contributor Add-in for Excel Before installing the Contributor Add-in for Excel, ensure that all system requirements are met and that the Contributor Web client is closed. Steps 1. From the CD or download location, double-click Setup.exe. 2. Click Install Cognos Planning - Contributor Add-in for Excel. 3. Follow the directions in the installation wizard. A Contributor menu item appears in the Excel toolbar so that you can log on to the Contributor Add-in for Excel. For more information, see the Cognos Planning - Contributor Add-in for Excel User Guide. Uninstall Contributor Add-in for Excel If you no longer need the Contributor Add-in for Excel, you can uninstall it. It is important to use the Windows uninstall program to completely remove all files and modifications to system files. You can also make the Contributor Add-in for Excel temporarily unavailable (p. 8). Steps Before uninstalling the Add-in, ensure that Excel is closed. 1. From the Start menu, click Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Select Cognos Series 7 Version Do one of the following: For Windows NT, click Add/Remove. For Windows 2000 and XP, click Change/Remove. The uninstall wizard begins. 5. Click Next. 6. Select Contributor Add-in for Excel, and then click Next. 7. Click Yes to confirm the uninstallation. This does not remove any XLS worksheets that you saved. Make Contributor Add-in for Excel Temporarily Unavailable You can remove the Contributor Add-in for Excel menu from the Excel toolbar without uninstalling the Add-in from the computer. This will make the Add-in temporarily unavailable. Steps 1. In Excel, from the Tools menu, click Add-Ins. 2. Clear the Cognos Planning - Contributor check box, and click OK. The Contributor menu disappears from the Excel toolbar. 8 Cognos Planning Contributor Add-in for Excel

9 Appendix A: Troubleshooting The Contributor Menu Item Did Not Appear in the Excel Toolbar If the Contributor menu item does not appear after installing the Add-in, the Add-in may not have been automatically added during the installation process. If this occurs, you can manually add the Contributor menu item to the Excel toolbar. Steps 1. In Excel, click the Tools menu, and then click Add-Ins. 2. Browse for the location of ContribForExcel.xla file, typically: C:\Program Files\Cognos\Planning\cer4\bin. A Contributor menu item is added to the Excel toolbar. The Installation Process Failed If there is a failure during the installation process, a log file containing detailed information is created in the following location: installation_location\bin\setupxla.log Installation Guide 9
