Ext or by Appointment or Chance Secretary: Marilyn Turner H 212 COURSE OBJECTIVES This course is concerned with the study of the topics of current importance in the field of Compensation Management. Upon successful completion of this course, you should 1) understand the strategic perspective of Compensation Management 2) understand the theoretical basis for strategic compensation decisions 3) understand the various techniques used to arrive at these strategic compensation decisions 4) be familiar with some of the current topics of interest / debate in the field of Compensation Management 5) have acquired or improved several key competencies: critical thinking and analysis communication skills- written and oral presentation skills team based skills project management time management To this end, the course is designed to maximize group work and presentations. Material from the articles and the presentations will be part of the mid term and the final. 1

Strategic Compensation in Canada, Fourth Edition.Nelson. Readings/ articles on Moodle NOTE Supplemental exams will be given in exceptional circumstances, and only providing that the student receives a final grade of at least 45%. Participation- includes: attendance, article discussion, assignments/case discussions and article presentations. Team Project- Each team of three will find an organization on which they will conduct a compensation audit.. see attached information. Team Presentation- Each team will choose a specific topic from the list below, and present the material to the class; the presentation will then be put on Moodle. Dates of topic presentations are indicated below. Each team will base their presentation on material from at least one key journal article, supplemented by material from the text. This article must be made available to the class a week prior to the presentation. I am looking for both breadth and depth in terms of the information provided in this presentation. 3 Cell Phone use in Class: There will be a zero tolerance policy for all electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, blackberries, i-phones) used in the class room. Cell phone use for voice or texting will not be tolerated. Should you be seen calling someone or texting you will be asked to leave the classroom. If you are in a situation which requires you to have your cell phone on or to receive text, please inform your professor prior to class. Talking the Same Time as Others: Not only is talking at the same time as someone else distracting, but it is also very disrespectful. Students talking the same time as others to the extent that it is distracting will be asked to leave the classroom. Computer Use in Class: Computers in class should only be used for taking class notes.
