The function covers direct as well as indirect tax requirements and the Manager, Tax would manage Opco level tax activities in analysing, performing transactions, coordinating and reporting on tax activities of the Opcos, in accordance with statutory requirements, MTN s company policies, procedures and contractual obligations. The Manager, Tax reports to the Senior Manager, Financial Services, and is supported by Tax Accountants. The position will interface with the CoE (Centre of Excellence) and SSH (Shared Services Hub) (not limited to) via Oracle workflows and non-oracle workflows in order to ensure effective and efficient operations Job Specifications/ Minimum & Preferred Requirements Education / Business Degree Bachelor s degree in Finance Post Graduate degree in Finance / equivalent (preferred) Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant) (advantageous) Work Experience 4-7 years of relevant managerial experience in Finance (Tax Administration) 2-4 years experience within a telecommunication environment Experience in continuous improvement through the implementation of best practices (Tax) Experience in Tax leading practices and trends Training Not Applicable Industry / Certifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (preferred) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) (preferred) Any other specifications Financial Analysis Financial Period Close Experience in accounting and finance domain in telecom GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) Competencies Knowledge Ambiguity in the workplace Complexity within the workplace Conflict management ERP (Oracle preferred) Financial accounting GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) Influencing others Information processing Problem solving Risk management Telecommunications industry Tax Page 1 of 5

3 Manage and provide solutions to issues that require formal resolution Opco Operational Set up and manage project status meetings Review and identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions Manage budgets Sign-off / make decisions regarding operational changes Performance Provide input to the performance review of CoE against agreed KPIs and their compliance to SLAs and reverse SLAs Create and monitor plan for continuous improvement Reporting Provide input into the review of reports on a monthly basis from the CoE relating to progress made within the sub-division and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation Review reports on specific projects as per the defined timelines as and when necessary Budgets Assist in managing the sub-divisional budgets in line with business objectives Assist in managing project initiative budgets in line with business objectives Operational Delivery Tax Risk Assessment Co-represent Opco along with Opco CFO to GMS & CoE on various tax related matters Review tax risk management policy and proposed strategy. Provide inputs to GMS and CoE for tax related policies, strategies and procedures Facilitate annual risk assessment to identify changes in tax related rules & regulations. Provide updates to Opco in case of modification of rules and regulation Review Tax Returns and Computation Review and approve both the direct and indirect taxes computations and returns before submission to the relevant tax authority Review and approve requests for tax refunds to tax authorities Liaise with GMS and CoE on month on month tax liability computation, return submission, assessment and subsequent outcomes Facilitate approvals at GMS and CoE level on tax returns and assessments based on defined delegation of authority Periodic transfer pricing liability assessment / periodic transfer pricing health check Review Tax Budgets Income Tax Forecasting and Reporting(Quarterly) Review computation of forecasting of other taxes Submission of tax budgets to GMS and CoE for approvals Page 3 of 5

4 Tax Related Audits and Disputes Manage tax audit and closure of tax accounts - work as primary liaison for tax auditors Review first level findings of any tax audit and provide response to auditors, as deemed appropriate (post necessary approvals) Review Tax disputes and tax refunds request Initiate tax dispute request formally in consultation with Opco CFO, GMS and CoE Prepare responses for any clarifications sought by statutory authorities Exceptions Handling and Reporting Perform Root cause analysis for SLA non-compliance and take corrective action Identify potential sensitive issues and escalate it to the appropriate level Provide information to the Senior Manager on work accomplishments, challenges, progress in work processes, individuals and team needs Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation, and business continuity Ensure the team is led, motivated, and rewarded to achieve high performance areas Guide and direct vendors and third parties in achieving Opco objectives Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions Manage team (including recruitment, on-boarding, attrition) Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress and maintain motivation Set up appropriate structure to meet departmental management objectives Role Dependencies MTN Policies and Procedures Stakeholders Landscape Internal Stakeholders: Interaction and Relationship External Stakeholders: Interaction and Relationship Finance Centres of Excellence (CoE) Opco Finance Business Partner Finance Service Delivery, SSH Statutory Authority Tax Auditors Legal Advisors Banks Discretionary Space (if applicable) Decision Making Not Applicable Constraints: Approved headcount and budget As per delegation of authority Authorities: Expenditure, conformance with budgets as per delegation Staff recruitment in line with policy Negative Indicators Not Applicable Page 4 of 5
