3 1. What are the latest labour market trends?

4 What s the latest? Demand for staff increases at fastest rate since April 2015 Candidate availability declines at quicker pace, pushing pay rates higher Staff vacancies rise at quickest rate for 28 months. Growth of demand for staff reached its highest since April Growth of placements strongest in the Midlands and North of England. London showed slowest rate of growth. The steepest increase in vacancies was seen in IT and Accounting/Financial. Top positions in the temporary/contract staff demand rankings were Blue Collar. Engineering and Nursing/Medical/Care.

8 What s the short-term outlook? Employer confidence in the UK economy has dropped to lowest level since the referendum 33% believe economic conditions are getting worse. BUT confidence in hiring and investment decisions remains positive. One in five (19%) employers plan to increase permanent headcount in the next quarter. Six in ten (59%) say that agency workers are important to responding to growth but more than a third (36%) expect to find a shortage of temporary agency workers to meet their needs.

20 Fail to prepare Changing demographics, technology, talent shortages, new business models and changing employee expectations will disrupt the current jobs market. Employers need to prepare for the changes ahead and be proactive in helping to shape a successful post- EU jobs market.
