1 KĀPITI VISITOR ATTRACTION PLAN This plan sets actins t grw the visitr ecnmy in Kāpiti, enabling us t accelerate the visin fr a thriving, vibrant and diverse district

2 Visitr attractin & ecnmic develpment Kāpiti District Ecnmic Develpment Strategy Psitining Kāpiti (excerpt) The Kāpiti Cast District Cuncil adpted an Ecnmic Develpment Strategy as an verarching strategic framewrk fr guiding the Cuncil s activity. The Strategy identifies a number f drivers t achieve ecnmic develpment grwth and success, the fur fcus areas are: pen fr business, building capability, leadership and respnsiveness, and psitining Kāpiti. Cuncil s investment in visitr attractin will add value t the psitining Kāpiti utcmes, which are t: develp a mre chesive identity and inspire a sense f cllective pride and belnging differentiate urselves and cut thrugh a crwded market imprve perceptin and build reputatin attract investment make it easier fr ur partners t wrk with us because we can articulate wh we are, where we fit, what we stand fr and what we have t ffer. Delivering high return initiatives will assist the District t achieve its ecnmic develpment utcmes. The Kāpiti Cast has an pprtunity t use the visitr ecnmy t accelerate its visin fr the District that is thriving, vibrant and diverse. This plan sets actins fr the Cuncil t deliver visitr fcussed initiatives fr Majr events have the ability t draw visitrs t the District and can encurage visitrs t spend mre time and mney in Kāpiti while prmting the liveability f the District, adding t the visitr experience. The Kāpiti Events Plan sets a radmap fr creating a vibrant events prtfli fr the 1 Kāpiti Events Plan was adpted by the Envirnment and Cmmunity Develpment Cmmittee in December 2015.

Visitr attractin & the lcal cmmunity The visitr ecnmy can enhance the District s wellbeing thugh the prvisin f emplyment and incmes, great scial amenity and mre chice fr residents. Creating an appealing destinatin fr visitrs als makes it mre attractive t residents with enhanced recreatin and entertainment pprtunities, leading t increased ecnmic benefits. Shwcasing the histry, culture and attractins f an area t attract visitrs can bring abut a real sense f pride and identity in residents. This all adds t the satisfactin and cntentment f peple wh live n the Kāpiti Cast. Visitr attractin & tāngata whenua It is imprtant that lcal attractins appeal t lcals and visitrs alike as vibrancy, safety and cmmunity culture add t the visitr experience and make a place great t visit and live. The Kāpiti Cast has a rich and clurful Māri histry that cntributes t the District s identity. This prvides an pprtunity t ffer distinctive experiences and presents an pprtunity fr tāngata whenua t facilitate initiatives that develp a greater iwi-māri presence in Kāpiti attractins, public spaces and visitr services. Cuncil has a majr rle in supprting and enabling iwi-led initiatives that enable tāngata whenua t welcme visitrs in the true spirit f manaakitanga. Transprt & cnnectivity Transprt cnnectins int the Kāpiti district are imprving with a number f significant transfrmatinal prjects underway that have the ptential t increase ecnmic grwth thrugh imprving the district s cnnectivity and visitr access. These include: Expressway and Transmissin Gully develpment State Highway 1 revcatin Blenheim, Nelsn and Auckland air services t Kāpiti Airprt cycleways, walkways and bridleways develpment.

4 These prjects play an imprtant part in establishing a frward plan fr visitr attractin and create pprtunities fr the District s lcal cmmunities - including twn centre revitalisatin, lp drives and lcal destinatin plans. The Kāpiti Cast District Cuncil is respnsible fr the prvisin f services that supprts lcal experiences and creates a safe and healthy envirnment fr visitrs t enjy. The cuncil plays an imprtant rle in determining the level and quality f investment in destinatin prmtin, including reginal marketing activities, events and festivals, gardens and parks, lcal swimming pls and ther public facilities which influence turism develpment. Enhanced lcal amenities make the District a great place t live, visit and invest in.

Individual initiatives within the plan are likely t have their wn set f refined success indicatrs that will reflect the bjectives and deliverables f the activity. It is envisaged that these indicatrs will influence the verall visitr sectr indicatrs fr Kāpiti.
