4 What is Recertification? Achieving certification from the HR Certification Institute is a long-term commitment to yourself, your career and the HR profession. Recertification is the process of renewing one's certification. 8 Professional Development An individual may earn all of their recertification credit in the Professional Development category. There are no credit limits for preapproved or instructor-led programs. This includes classroom, e-learning and web-based programs. Professional Development Activities: Preapproved Program-program ID (no max) Continuing Education-Instructor Led (no max) Self-Directed Learning-no formal structure (30 hour max)

9 Self-Directed Learning Watching or listening to videos, DVDs, interactive CDs, audiotapes or podcasts credit awarded on an hour for hour basis. Being mentored or coached credit awarded on an hour for hour basis. Pre-approved book club books books that are submitted through the preapproval process can receive 3-4 credits per book.

10 Webinars & Instructor Led Continuing Ed Now there is no credit limits for instructor-led webinars or preapproved programs! Sessions must be at least 45 minutes long (30 minutes of content, 15 minutes of Q&A) Credit may be recorded in quarter hour increments College courses: 1 semester credit = 10 recertification credits

11 Professional Achievement An individual may earn up to 40 recertification credit hours in this category. The 40 hours may come from one subcategory (except for membership) or any combination of the five subcategories. 12 On-the-Job Activity You can earn credit (even specified credit) for something new you ve done at work! To submit your first-time activity, you will need to provide: title and description of the activity description of length of time spent on the activity indication as to which of the exam content outline areas the activity related description of specific role in the project

13 Leadership & HR Membership Earn credit for participation in a national, international, and local HR association. 2 credits per year per association Earn credits for leadership by contributing your HR expertise to individuals or organizations Mentor or coach Committee Chair or Member Officer position on a board HRCI Exam Development Panel

Keep documentation of activities you participate in; this will be needed in the event you are audited! Earn a few extra recertification credit hours just to be safe. Apply well ahead of your deadline date, so you have enough time to earn more hours should your submission fall short of 60 credits.

A: The purpose of the enhancements is to provide greater flexibility and sufficient opportunities to earn recertification credit. Q: Do I have to do anything different in the system? A: The process for entering activities remains the same. There are no new changes. Q: How long (min/hours) does an activity have to be to earn credits? A: Programs must be at least 45 minutes long and HR-related. Credits may be recorded in quarter hour increments such as you can earn 1.25 credit hours for a program that is one hour and 15 minutes in length Q: What documents do I need to provide to prove that I attended an instructor led webinar? A: Please provide a certificate or letter of attendance, registration form, receipt, confirmation

A: Non-Instructor Led activities are considered passive learning (DVDs, webcast, Interactive CDs, watching or listening to videos, podcast or audiotapes.) Q: What s the difference between self-reported and self-directed? Self-Reported activities are instructor led (No credit max). Examples: course offered by a college or university, by attending a non-preapproved program or conference that adds to your HR knowledge, by participating in an online training, in-house work training or by attending a professional HR chapter program. Self-Directed learning activities are not instructor led and have no formal structure (30 credit max): webcasts, watching or listening to videos, DVDs, interactive CDs audiotapes or podcasts.
