2 Health & Safety Policy Statement Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 This is the Health and Safety Policy Statement of: Rollalong Ltd. Our statement of general policy is: to provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising out of our work activities to consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety to provide and maintain safe plant and equipment to ensure safe handling and use of substances to provide information, instruction and supervision for employees to ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health to maintain safe and healthy working conditions to review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals. 3 Responsibilities: The company recognises its responsibilities for Health & safety and the need for effective implementation of its policies and procedures. Although overall responsibility cannot be delegated, in order to effectively manage the policy and health & safety function of the company the following tasks have been set for specific individuals. The following document clearly states who is responsible for each element of this policy in order to allow health and safety concerns to be directed to the right person. 1 Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of: Managing Director 2 Day to day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice delegated to: 3 To ensure health & safety standards are maintained / continuously improved, the following people have responsibility in the following areas: Manufacturing Manager: Manufacturing Cells personnel and equipment. 4 Employees Duties; All employees must under the; MHSW regulation 14 and HASWA 1974 section 7 Use all machinery, equipment, dangerous substance, transport equipment, means of production or safety device provided by the employer in accordance with the training received and instructions respecting use provided. Work to any SSOW (safe system of work) put in place by the employer for the employees, and others safety. Co-operate with supervisors and managers on health & safety matters. Not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health & safety. Take reasonable care of their own health & safety and those of others who may be affected through their actions or omissions. Report all health & safety concerns to an appropriate person (as detailed in the policy statement). Health & Safety risks arising from our work activities: Risk assessments will be undertaken by; Cell Leaders The findings of the risk assessments will be reported to; Tim Woodley Board Of Directors 4

The Health and Safety Committee will preside over and review the data following action implemented to reduce risks and recommend accordingly. Assessments will be reviewed for effectiveness every 6 months or when work activity changes by the H & S Committee. 6 Safe Plant & Equipment: It is important that all plant and equipment that requires maintenance is well maintained and safe to use. To this end it is important to recognise what equipment needs maintenance, that the maintenance is done and that any purchased machinery is safe and maintained before operation. Responsibility for Plant and Equipment maintenance planning and implementation lies with: Oscar Nicklen Senior Maintenance Technician Any problems with Plant and Equipment should be reported to: Manufacturing Manager Safe handling and use of substances: Responsibility for identifying all substances that require a COSHH assessment and undertaking / arranging assessments will be by: Qualified consultants / experts as appropriate. 6

7 Responsibility for ensuring all actions identified in the assessments are implemented and employees informed are: Manufacturing Manager A check that new substances can be used safely will be carried out by: A review of assessments MSS will Manager be carried out annually or when work practises / materials change (whichever is soonest) by: Cell Leaders Information, Instruction and Supervision. Health and Safety Law Poster. The Health & Safety Law Poster must legally be displayed or leaflets issued to ever single employee. The Law poster is situated at the Main Clocking Station and on the main Staff Notice Board opposite the staff kitchen. Health and safety advice is available from: Tim Woodley 7

8 Supervision of young workers / trainees will be arranged by / Undertaken / Monitored by: Manufacturing Manager Cell Leaders It is important that any of our employees undertaking work at locations other than Three Legged Cross and under the control of other employers are given relevant health and safety information. In this event the responsibility for furnishing this information lies with: Manufacturing Manager Competency for tasks and training All employees must be given health and safety training upon induction and before they start work. This covers amongst other things Do s and Don ts, first aid, fire procedures, welfare and site etiquette. As well as job specific health and safety training there are some jobs that require special training over and above this as they have been identified as a greater risk. Induction training will be provided for all employees by: Cell Leaders 8

10 Training will be identified, arranged and monitored by: Manufacturing Manager (Courses requiring 3 rd parties also) (Courses requiring 3 rd parties also) Cell Leaders In House Only Accidents, first aid and work-related ill health Employees must receive specialist health surveillance for certain work activities identified in our COSHH assessments. Although Rollalong actively pursues the hierarchy of controls method (Eliminate / Substitute, Reduce, Isolate, Control, Train, PPE) inevitably some health surveillance is necessary as a precautionary measure. Our first aid arrangements are also covered in this section. Health surveillance will be carried out on commencement of employment, and on an annual basis thereafter by means of employee questionnaires for shop floor personnel, covering the following : Hand Arm Vibration Noise at Work Skin Disorders 10

11 Health surveillance will be arranged by: Human Resources. Health surveillance records will be kept and assessed for further action by: Human Resources. First Aid boxes are kept at: Finishing Shop, PRF Shop, Build Shop First Aid room and Main office by First Aiders. The appointed First Aiders are: Steve Harris Mark Biffin Finishing Pods, Floors & Roofs. Backed up by appointed persons who are Office/Yard and Factory Office/Yard and Factory 11

12 All accidents and cases of work-related ill health are to be recorded in the accident book. The book is kept in / by: For the shop floor For the offices The First Aid room Manufacturing Services manager The responsibility for reporting RIDDOR (Reportable incidents, diseases, dangerous occurrences) to the enforcing authority lies with: Tim Woodley (Deputised in his absence) Monitoring: Monitoring is an important part of showing that your health and safety measures are effective / working. Rollalong monitors the effectiveness of its health and safety procedures in the following ways: To check our working conditions and ensure our safe working practices are being followed we adopt the following methods: Analysis of accident figures and cases monthly at the Board meeting. Investigation of every accident regardless of severity with corrective actions. Investigation of every near miss occurrence with corrective actions. Review of statistics and accidents at bi-annual safety committee meetings. 12

14 Emergency procedures fire and evacuation: The following records sets out responsibility s for ensuring our emergency procedures are effective.
