We currently have a new vacancy for: Health and Safety Officer Salary range: 33,774-39,139 This is an exciting opportunity to join Cheshire College South and West as Health and Safety Officer. Your role will take responsibility for all aspects of Health & Safety within the College, supporting managers to ensure levels of health and safety exceed compliance across all areas of the College for staff, students, visitors and contractors. We are looking for someone who is comfortable speaking to all staff, identifying and explaining the practical application of health and safety, motivating staff to embed health and safety within their curriculum and support areas and someone who is equally comfortable reporting to senior managers on health and safety trends, legislative requirements and recommendations. You will possess a degree level qualification in Health & Safety or be able to demonstrate exceptional levels of knowledge and experience within an educational environment, with a minimum of a NEBOSH Certificate qualification in health and safety. You will report to the Director of Estates & Facilities reviewing, developing and maintaining the health and safety management system, carrying out internal audits of curriculum and support areas and working with Assistant Directors to raise health & safety within their areas to exemplary levels. You will be able to demonstrate a pro-active response to Health and Safety and be responsible for developing and maintaining incident reporting systems and providing health and safety related data returns on a monthly basis. 2 Health & Safety Officer Job Description Area : Estates and Facilities Salary : S8 Hours of Work (Full-time/Part-time) : 37 hours per week Line Manager : Director Estates and Facilities Responsibility for : Providing Health and Safety Compliance across all areas of the College Main Purpose of Job: To provide excellent customer service to ensure that the provision: : Reviewing, developing and maintaining the safety management systems within the College and auditing areas to ensure compliance : Providing health and safety data returns to manage compliance and demonstrate exemplar levels of compliance across all areas of the college Meets the needs of learners, employers and other stakeholders Is of the highest possible quality in terms of learner outcomes and learner/employer satisfaction Is effective, efficient and provide excellent value for money Reflects the vision, mission, aims and values of the college Is innovative, developmental and sector leading Promotes a culture of excellence and equality Key Duties and Responsibilities: The post holder will: (1) Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the college. (2) Review, develop and maintain the College Health & Safety Policy Statement and management system. (3) Provide excellent levels of pro-active support for staff and students with regard to health and safety in their daily routine. (4) Prioritise work according to both customer and College needs. (5) Promote a positive health & safety culture and embed health & safety within all areas of the College. (6) Manage the duty of care for all staff, students, visitors and contractors and ensure robust health and safety systems are in place and operational. (7) Asses and report any non-compliance immediately to line management with time based action plans for resolution (8) Undertake training and development as identified through appraisal process or on ad hoc basis from time to time, in line with the college s normal requirements. 2

3 Generic Duties and Responsibilities: (9) Collate health and safety data, report on trends and make recommendations to consistently improve health and safety within the College. (10) Carry out audits of all areas within the College and produce improvement action plans (11) Comply with College policies, procedures and agreements (12) Manage statutory compliance across all College sites. (13) Pro-actively manage the risk management of the College. (14) Undertake appropriate staff development activities that support personal development and the changing needs of the College and its environment (15) Be aware of, and responsive to, the changing nature of the College and adopt a flexible and proactive approach to work (16) Promote and implement the College s strategies on equality, diversity and safeguarding (17) Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with this grade, at the initial agreed place of work or at other locations in the College catchment area The College Health & Safety Policy statement sets out the commitment to health & safety (H&S) by Cheshire College South & West and details responsibilities for H&S from the Corporation Board through the organisation to every staff member. The policy makes reference to the management system which is the system used to manage H&S within the College and consists of a series of safety guidance documents covering relevant H&S legislation and operations carried out by the College where guidance and practical advice is required to ensure H&S is imbedded within every aspect of the College. The Health & Safety Advisor for the College has a key role in ensuring that the Policy and Management System is robust and covers every area of legislation and College activity for staff, students, visitors and contractors. The Health & Safety Advisor will be expected to embed the management system into all areas of the College to ensure a robust system is in place and that there is an exemplar level of health and safety culture throughout all areas of the College.
