The fast-track programme helps you to make the most of your existing qualifications and experience and apply them to a unique challenge helping to change the lives of 15 to 18 year olds in custody. You will initially be trained as a youth justice worker and study a level 4 qualification in youth justice. You will support young people who may have committed serious crimes, grown up in difficult settings or have mental health concerns. They will test boundaries at every level, but also have a huge potential for change After 15 months, if you successfully complete the programme, you will have the opportunity to progress to a youth justice worker specialist role and continue fully funded further studies.

2 Eligibility You will need to hold a minimum of a level 4 equivalent qualification or above in one the following subjects to be eligible for the fast-track programme: youth justice, psychology, sociology, criminology teaching and learning support, youth work, childcare and parenting services social work counselling, mental health, substance misuse, working with vulnerable people probation practice mental health, nursing and healthcare coaching therapeutic practice Once successfully passed the online test you will be required to send electronic versions of qualification documents which confirm you meet the essential criteria. Experience working with young people is also desirable. To be eligible for the programme and progress to the specialist role, existing staff will need to go through this application process and successfully complete the 15 month programme. 3 Find out about the application process >> Job details Pay You will begin the fast-track programme as a youth justice worker. You will start on a 37 hour contract until your initial training is complete. After this you can choose to increase your hours to 39 or 41 hours a week. You may also have opportunities to work additional paid hours. Please note that if you are not successful on completion of the programme, you will be redeployed to a prison officer role in the adult estate. Important dates Applications close: 29th November 2018 Assessments and recruitment centre dates will be available between 10th and 21st December 2018 You will be notified if you are successful from 21 st December. You will go through a period of vetting if successful and once complete training will start at the end of April. Merit campaign: This is a merit job vacancy. If you are successful at the Assessment & Recruitment Centre (ARC), you will be added to a merit list based on your score. When all applicants have completed the assessment centre, the prison will make job offers to those with the highest scores first when positions become available. You can stay on the merit list for 12 months. After this, you ll need to apply again.
