2 Long - span buildings - Features, purpose Long-span buildings create column-free spaces greater than 30 metres (100 feet) for a variety of functions. These include activities where visibility is important for large audiences (auditoriums, covered stadiums, bathing pools, theatres,), where flexibility is important (exhibition halls and certain types of manufacturing facility), and where large movable objects are housed (aircraft hangars, docks, railway station). Galerie de Machines, 1889 Paris Exhibition, Dutert Stamford Bridge - football stadium, West London, home to Chelsea Football Club, Renovated

3 Long - span buildings: Historical examples Industrial Palace, Prague, Czech Rep., exhibition grounds,1891 Stock Exchange, Amstedam, Netherlands,1898 3
