RCMA FIELD STUDY

Field Study II On June 22, the board approved funding the Field Study II. Field Study II will examine the effect of application of reflective elastomeric coatings to various single-ply membranes including EPDM, TPO, and PVC. Reflective coatings will be applied to both aged and new membranes before being placed in the field (Florida, Arizona, Minnesota) along-side uncoated samples of the same aged and new membranes. Physical characteristics of the membranes will be examined throughout the life of the study measured initially and at yearly intervals up to 10 years. After 5 years the study will be examined and a report will be issued.

Field Study II For EDPM, TPO and PVC as the coating substrate, the tests will include: Thickness over scrim per D7635 Tensile strength (peak load) per D5147 Elongation at peak load per D5147 Tear strength (trouser) per D1938 For PVC only Low-temperature bend per D2136

Field Study II EPDM Samples and Controls are built. Many thanks to Ryan Blad and Tracey Hall PVC and TPO samples and controls to be built in November.

Field Study II Exposure Sites to be located in: Arizona Florida Minnesota Updated Timing / Schedule: Install samples in Spring 2016 Testing at year 0 in 2016 Testing at year 1 in 2017 Testing at year 3 in 2019 Testing at year 5 in 2021 Testing at year 7 in 2023 Testing at year 10 in 2026

Field Study II Aged New Total Initial testing (Summer 2015): $ $ $5800 Year 1 testing (Summer 2016): $ $ $5800 Year 3 testing (Summer 2018): $ $ $5800 Year 5 testing (Summer 2020): $ $ $5800 Year 7 testing (Summer 2022): $ $ $5800 Year 10 testing (Summer 2025): $ $ $5800 Total costs: $17, $17, $34,800 MTi will be receiving a yearly fee in order to allow RCMA to budget an equivalent amount each year for the next 11 years.

CRRC ROUGH SUBSTRATES WORKING GROUP UPDATE

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Next meeting and Roster The next CRRC Technical Committee meetings are Thursday, October 22, 2015 in Denver, CO. Active members include: Jeff Blank, SR Products Steven Heinje, GAF Products Dave Roodvoets, DLR Consultants Cindy Campbell, Momentum Technologies Dave Yarbrough, R&D Services Gary Whittemore, Sika Sarnafil Hal Leland, Western Colloid Al Janni, Duro-Last Rich Slomko, Atlas Mike Ennis, SPRI Jim Kirby, RCMA John Ferraro, RCMA Jared Rothstein, RCMA

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Objective Background Implement a revised test procedure to accurately measure solar reflectance (SR) of coatings applied over rough substrates Two studies completed with partners RRCI and RCMA Findings indicate that SR is consistently lower for coating on rough substrates Technical Committee voted to implement dual ratings Draft test procedure was developed

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Background Working group met several times since March 2015 to develop a round robin procedure and partner with RCMA to recruit manufacturers Procedure, instructions, and reporting tool developed and approved by working group Samples and controls prepared and sent to CRRC 5 samples and 1 control from each manufacturer CRRC packaged and labeled the samples

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Photos of Samples

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Study Details Seven participating labs Each lab will receive the same set of panels Protocol: Complete solar reflectance testing using ASTM C1549 Test thickness of samples using ASTM D7091 Complete Reporting Tool and provide photos of all panels Each lab will have 3 weeks to complete testing First lab has received the samples

CRRC Rough Substrates Working Group Update Next Steps Facilitate round robin and address any concerns throughout Round robin expected to be complete in February of 2016 Results will be presented to working group in spring of 2016 Recommendation to Technical Committee

ENERGY STAR Roof Products Specification Version 3.0 The Version 3.0 ENERGY STAR specification for Roof Products has been finalized and shall take effect on July 1, Materials related to this revision process are provided below.
