1 Job advert University of East Anglia (UEA) International Officer North China (2 years Fixed Term) Context The University of East Anglia (UEA) is a campus based university, located in the historic city of Norwich, two hours by train from London. UEA ranks in the top 15 of UK universities, and is internationally renowned for its research, placed amongst the top in the UK. The University maintains this reputation by selecting the most able and dedicated staff and students from around the world, and challenging them to reach their full potential. UEA was the first UK University to collaborate with INTO University partnerships, offering on- campus, tailor made academic and English preparation courses for international students. UEA International is part of the Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing (ARM) service area, and is responsible for the recruitment of international students through direct recruitment channels, as well as via progression from INTO UEA courses. Requirements UEA International is looking to appoint a new International Officer working remotely from one of INTO s regional offices based in China. It is expected that the post holder will work out of either the INTO Beijing office or the INTO Shanghai office. However the INTO Guangzhou office will also be considered if the successful candidate is already based there. The post holder will be responsible for delivering the University s direct degree, study abroad and summer school recruitment strategy, and will most likely take responsibility for the north of China. The current East Asia team comprises of a Country Manager for Greater China based in Guangzhou, an International Officer based in Shanghai, and a Country Development Manager based in Norwich, overseeing all East Asian recruitment activity. The expectation is that the post holder will promote and encourage students to apply to INTO UEA, our on campus partner and provider of academic and English preparation programmes. In addition to recruitment, the post holder will also be responsible for assisting with social media, marketing and publicity activities, alumni engagement, and liaison and development of relationships with local schools and universities. All role holders are expected to undertake other appropriate duties, as may be requested by the Country Manager (Greater China), Country Development Manager (East Asia) and other UEAI Managers.

2 The post holder must have excellent customer-service skills and the ability to meet deadlines and achieve targets. Candidates will have previous experience of working in a recruitment or marketing role, as well knowledge of the UK education system. Excellent communication skills are key, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have outstanding communication and time management skills, and an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese. During peak recruitment periods, unsociable hours and weekend work will be required. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Region: Department: Location: Reporting to: International Officer (North China) Mainland China UEA International, University of East Anglia (UEA) Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou Country Manager (Greater China) Main Duties and Responsibililties The post holder is required to undertake a number of wide ranging duties and responsibilities in order to assist the University in delivering a high quality service in line with its strategic plan. These duties and responsibilities include: Responsibility for developing and delivering the planned recruitment activities in North China, in conjunction with and as designated by the Country Manager for Greater China. However, during peak recruitment times, the post holder will be required to undertake travel and activity across all of mainland China as required. Undertake frequent travel in the country (with several weeks away at once during peak recruitment periods) in order to attend higher education exhibitions, and to make private visits to educational agencies, schools and institutions. During visits, promote the university as a study destination and undertake student counselling and admissions guidance. Record expenditure in order to keep budget records updated, and make sure the country spend is within allocated budgets, in conjunction with the Country Manager for Greater China. Responsibility for planning own travel schedule and assist with planning inward visits from academics and other UEA staff. Responsible for booking into events, arranging freight and other visit logistics. Assist with the development of country strategies by supplying market intelligence gathered from statistics and experience in target markets, and by submitting monthly reports, future recruitment plans and maintaining regular close contact with the Country Manager for Greater China.

3 Assist with agency management and strategy. Maintain regular contact with agencies and deal with communications in a timely and professional manner, including answering admission queries, and the distribution of relevant university information and promotional materials. Act as a point of contact, handle enquiries and develop good relations with a wide range of external stakeholders, including applicants and parents, international schools, local universities and the British Council. Provide current, accurate and relevant information on admission requirements, policies and procedures. Engage with and develop links with local Alumni, collect case studies and career profiles, and assist in organising in country Alumni reunions. Provide support, information and develop good relations with a wide range of internal contacts including colleagues within Admissions Recruitment and Marketing, INTO UEA and INTO China colleagues, Faculties and Schools of Study. Provide current, accurate and relevant information and advice for University admissions staff about international qualifications. Work with UEAi colleagues in devising and implementing projects and campaigns designed to enhance the University's exposure overseas and aid conversion of applicants into enrolments. Develop market specific information and promotional material for the University including translation of material into Chinese. Assist in researching and undertaking marketing with external organisations in conjunction with the UEA Marketing team. Occasionally the role holder may be asked to assist with partnership development initiatives, in support of the work of the Strategic Engagement Manager. The post holder will be expected to travel within the region for a minimum of weeks per year. During peak recruitment periods, unsociable hours and weekend work will be required. Annual leave may be restricted during this time. All role holders are expected to undertake other appropriate duties as may be requested by the Country Manager for Greater China as direct line manager, but will also take direction from the Country Development Manager for East Asia and other UEAI managers. 5 Salary restricted during this time Freedom to travel within the East Asia region and to the UK.
