1 Range of application s are mainly used as roof, cavity, interior, or external insulations but also as rigid underlays. Furthermore they are used as External Thermal Insulation Composite System (ETICS) which can directly be fixed on the timber frame. The processing guidelines of the manufacturer have to be followed. However, the evidence of usability is not included in the standard EN _ according to ÖNORM B 6000 _ Approval provided by the manufacturer (Germany) General Description consists of more than 80 % wood fibres, the product is factory made and if necessary adhesive agents or other additives are added. The product is mainly used for thermal and acoustic insulation in building construction, produced of softwood and available as rolls, mats and boards. The raw material is basically waste wood from saw mills, e. g. slabs or chips. There are two manufacturing processes: wet process and dry process. _ Certificate of proof of usability according to EN (in this standard no requirements regarding properties or usabiliy for a certain application are given see ÖNORM B 6000) _ The standard EN does not apply for products, of which the thermal conductivity is more than 0,070 W/mK (at a medium temperature of 10 C). Wet process: For this process the own cohesiveness of wood is used for bonding. Boards with moisture resistance for external use, are glued with latex. In a thermomechanical process the material is converted into fibres and afterwards the pressed fibres will be brought to set by heat treatment. For this process additional bonding agents are not required. To improve strength or hydrophobic propterties bitumen or latex additives will be added (e.g. rigid underlays) for roof insulation and all boards which can be plastered. After mechanical squeezing out most of the water the pressed fibres will be cut lenghwise, dried at temperatures ranging between 160 and 220 C and cut into required sizes and profiles. At the wet manufacturing process thicknesses between 3 to 25 mm are produced (density between kg/m 3 ) which are glued togehter to achieve larger thicknesses. Dry process: To manufacture wood fibre insulating boards which are dimensionally stable and resistant to compression, the material is converted to fibres, dried down to the required residual moisture and afterwards bonded with adhesive agents in a glue spreading machine. Glued fibres are spread, calibrated to the required board thickness and hardened through vapour (drying) or vapour air mixture. To manufacture flexible wood fibre insulating mats fibres are dried to the required moisture content, mixed with textile binding fibres and shaped through forming machines to an endless board strand. At the dryair dryer fractional fusion of the binding fibres takes place and by cooling down the board strand the crosslinking of the fibres is achieved. dataholz.eu Catalogue of wood and woodbased composite materials, building materials, components and component connections 1/5

2 Abbreviation Application range WFW WFWF WFWV WFWD WFT WFPT, not resistant to compression, for thermal insulation of walls, ceilings and roofs with limited water absorption for use in ventilated facade constructions, timber frame constructions, in lightpanelframeworks, as well as attic conversions can be stressed in tension perpendicular to the plane of the slab, e.g. insulated interior facing formworks without substructure, can be stressed in tension perpendicular to the plane of the slab, e. g. insulation of roofs, ventilated facades or floors, resistant to compression, for impact sound insulation unterneath floor pavements, resistant to compression, can be stressed in tension perpendicular to the plane of the slab, with limited water absorption as a plaster lath for external thermal insulating composite systems and doublelayer structures. _WFPT 5; tension perpendicular to the plane of the slab 5 kpa _WFPT 10; tension perpendicular to the plane of the slab 10 kpa Regarding application the product is distinguished by following types (according to ÖNORM B 6000) Typical board sizes [in mm] Board sizes are mainly limited by the width of the manufacturing facility, mostly they are 1250 or 2500 mm. Currently there are several applicationoriented formats available, which allow wastefree processing by general grid dimensions. Usually small rectangular formats are used (Dimension 600/1250 mm). At wet processing thicknesses from 3 to 25 mm are produced at density range between 130 and 300 kg/m 3 and at dry processing thicknesses from 20 to 240 mm are produced at density range between 40 and 240 kg/m 3. Thicknesses according to range of application: _ETICS with wood fibre insulation boards (range between 40 and 200 mm) _Cavity insulation with wood fibre insulation boards (usually until 120 mm) Edge profile: _tongue and groove _shiplap _butt Fixing: Fixing is manufacture related mostly there are used clout nails, insulation fixing (e.g. anchors, etc.) and staples or broad back staples. dataholz.eu Catalogue of wood and woodbased composite materials, building materials, components and component connections 2/5

The required classes or levels for specific application can be taken from applicable regulations, respecitvely specifications, which have to agree with the above mentioned standard. Fire performance _ The reaction to fire of wood fibre insulation is classified to Euroclass E according to EN But there are also wood fibre insulation materials, which achieve Euroclass D. Physical properties _ as stated in the approval of the manufacturer [kg/m 3 ] [W/mK] µ[min max] 40 0, ,055 5 s are not classified as airproof building materials according to DIN However, they can improve the wind tightness of the building, when inserted externally. For applications in humid or external areas the hygroscopicity of the boards has to be reduced. boards used as ETICS (hydrophobic) or roof insulation have densities at range of 140 to 270 kg/m 3, the thermal conductivity is between 0,040 and 0,052 W/mK. dataholz.eu Catalogue of wood and woodbased composite materials, building materials, components and component connections 3/5
