2 What Cooperatives can do Cooperative Sector can promote Renewable Energy and reduce CO2 emissions through Energy Saving initiatives or alternate fuel to provide a diverse supply of environmentally friendly Energy. Cooperatives can even process up to 10% of agriculture produce through agro-processing Cooperatives. Cooperatives can increase the employment opportunities for Rural Men and Women. Cooperatives can lessen the wide urban-rural gap in the availability of medical services. Cooperative can emerge as Trading and Learning platform for the Agri community. 2

4 Rural Health Opportunity for Coopsoperatives Poor distribution of the skilled manpower in the country. 70% of our population lives in the villages while 70% of the doctors are serving in the urban areas. Concerns regarding ethics, medical negligence, commercialization of medicine and incompetence Increasing cost of medical care is a threat to healthy doctor patient relationship. Need for effective health care to the rural population by Improving access, Enhancing equity and accountability and Promoting decentralization. Government aims to increase public expenditure on health from 1.2% of GDP to 2.5% by 2017 and at least 3% of GDP by Cooperatives can penetrate in Rural region to provide most of the general health advice and services under one roof at affordable rates. 4

5 Women Empowerment - Opportunity for Co-operatives India with the population of 1.2 Billion is the 2 nd Most Populous Country in the World. Women comprise 48.5% of the population. Rural Women comprise 33.5% of the population. 80% of urban women are literate compared to 59% of rural women. Worker population ratio for females is higher in Rural areas (24.8%) and 14.7% in Urban areas. India to add 110 million people to its labour force in the next 8-10 years, including youth and women entering the workforce. If India can increase women's labour force participation by 10 percentage points (68 million more women) by 2025, India could increase its GDP 16% 5

8 Initiatives by IFFCO IFFCO-MC Crop Science Pvt. Ltd - Venture with Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan to Manufacture and Sale Agrochemicals in India. Advisory Services a key component. IFFCO e Bazar Limited Catering Goods and Services required by farmers under one roof. An ecommerce based module to facilitate trade for Rural and Urban Consumers and give Hypermarket experience to Rural consumers. IFFCO keen to make available latest Farm Machineries for the farmers in India - MoU signed with All China Federation of Supply and Marketing, China. IFFCO recently in April, 17 launch a digital initiative IFFCO Yuva in association with a people platform Youth4work.com for improving the skills of Rural young Men & Women of India for better career opportunities. Plan to set up Food Processing and Agri Based Industries. 8

9 Initiatives by IFFCO IFFCO picked stake in start-up firm Gramin Health Care (GHC) with an aim to provide affordable and easily accessible healthcare service for farmers. IFFCO aims to set up primary care centres at IFFCO Bazar outlets at tier III and tier IV rural hubs and offer services on diabetes management. Women hold only 7.7% of board seats and just 2.7% of board chairs in the Country. IFFCO is promoting Women Cooperatives and empowering through enrolling them as Members in IFFCO family. 9
