The senior communications advisor will oversee a team of three other communications advisors. Working in an account management style, the advisors will project manage the planning and implementation of communications strategies across a variety of platforms aimed at engaging with the communities of Otago, keeping them informed on work ORC is undertaking and encouraging them to have their say on important ORC projects and plans. The role includes the design, planning, development, delivery and evaluation of communication and engagement activities to deliver organisational objectives. Community events experience, logistics and facilitation skills are a bonus. The Senior communications and Engagement Advisor will form a key link between ORC Operational, Policy and Technical teams, to ensure the messaging they are sending out is both tailored and engaging to its target audience. Results Area Activities Expected Outcome Supervising a team of communications and engagement advisors Working alongside the Manager Community Engagement to ensure projects are designed and delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard. 2 With the manager community engagement, implement IAP2 and consistent work approaches. Managing daily team requirements. Working with other ORC staff to develop and deliver communications and engagement projects. Budget oversight. Communications and Engagement Planning and Projects Leading preparation and implementation of project communication and engagement plans and strategies. Advise project teams on how best to communicate their outputs and inform target audiences. Produce comprehensive communications plans for projects. Liaise with Customer Services to accommodate any customer enquiries that may result from project communications. Produce and maintain tools for project teams to assist with in-field engagement across ORC. Work with industry key partners to identify and promote tools, advice and support that can be shared between organisations to ensure messages are aligned. The value-add of Otago Regional Council is effectively communicated to the target audience. Project teams expectations are met consistently while also contributing to the organisation s corporate standards and key messages. All parts of the ORC assist in the dissemination of key messages for projects using tools/material prepared. Projects implemented, managed and reported on in accordance with agreed specifications, budgets and targets. ORC and our stakeholders have understanding of and access to the range of industry advice and support relevant to the goals of ORC. Strategic communication and engagement advice A prescribed approach to community engagement well understood by community and internal stakeholders. Utilise our consultation platform, YourSay, as an effective tool to get input into regional policies and plans Excellence in service delivery both internally and to the community. Contribute to the implementation of the Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy Support the Strategic Communications and Engagement team to ensure an appropriate response to Civil Defence Emergency Management events. Attend training and drill exercises for such events as required. with clear messages, aimed at the target audience in an easy to understand and attractive format and style on time to corporate standards Directorate and project communications share the same messages and standards. The Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy is delivered according to the implementation plan Contribution to the broader Stakeholder Engagement team culture that being one of excellence, innovation, creativity and a fun and safe environment. Contribution to the broader ORC culture, and adhering to the organisation values and behaviours Contribute to, and support the smooth running of Emergency Processes. One is well prepared for such an event, by way of attending designated training. Education and Qualifications (or equivalent level of learning) Essential A tertiary qualification in Communications or related field/equivalent industry experience Desirable Post-Graduate qualification in Communication, Marketing or similar Page 4 of 5
