2 Bühler - experts in intelligent optical sorting. Covering a wide range of applications. Bühler is a leading global supplier of optical sorting solutions to various industries and has been at the forefront of optical sorting technology for over 65 years. Being one of the world s most trusted brands in optical sorting, Bühler is recognised for industryleading SORTEX optical sorters which have proven performance, at the highest standards, delivering maximum results. With commitment to substantial investment in R&D, Bühler has developed optical sorters with a focus on capacity, speed, accuracy and delivering consistent quality and yield to plastic recyclers and processors with the highest demands. Bühler is active in many industries such as packaging, construction, electronic/electrical (WEEE), End-of-life vehicle (ELV) and petrochemical industries; providing solutions to the most difficult and challenging applications. Packaging SORTEX optical sorters can sort flakes from packaging waste from food grade and non-food grade PET (drink bottles, from food trays) and HDPE (milk bottles, bottle caps, detergent and shampoo bottles). Applications include removing plastics of unwanted colours and types as well as removing foreign material such as metals, obtaining nearpure resin streams. PET HDPE Construction upvc is sourced from off-cuts and post-consumer window frames, cable trunking, shutters and more. Bühler's optical sorters provide the highest efficiency in the most challenging applications including removing black rubber seal fragments as well as polymers same in colour such as white silicon, nylon and rubber from white upvc regrind. upvc (off-cuts) upvc (post-consumer) Electronic waste/end-of-life Vehicles Recovering plastics from electronic/electrical waste and from scrap automobiles involves numerous sorting applications to achieve maximum product value. SORTEX optical sorters deliver outstanding results in separating plastic from metal, wire recovery from WEEE/ELV shred and accurate colour grouping. Wire recovery Colour grouping Petrochemical During manufacturing of plastic resin, the product often develops various defects which can be difficult to detect with standard colour sorting. Bühler's SORTEX optical sorters are equipped with advanced technology which can effectively detect subtle spot defects, discoloured and misshapen polymers, same in polymeric material and colour, achieving a high quality end product. 10 Innovative technologies. Removing unwanted plastics and foreign material. Visible Cameras Bühler s cameras are designed and built in-house to meet customers' specific needs. High-resolution optic sensors deliver the colour registration needed to detect plastics of unwanted colour and foreign material. Combined with InGaAs technology, these sensors allow SORTEX optical sorters to deliver a pure and consistent end product. High-resolution, custom-designed cameras InGaAs Technology InGaAs technology produces excellent results in the reduction of polymeric defects. These include white silicon, nylon and rubber from white upvc regrind, multi-layered HDPE flakes from single-layered, white rubber from white PS, as well as various polymers such as PVC from PET flakes and many others. InGaAs technology frame capture PROfile Technology PROfile technology improves sorting accuracy by distinguishing objects using shape characteristics like size and shape even when these cannot be detected in the entire spectrum of visible and infrared light. PROfile technology, which detects the size and shape features of the product, can be used in combination with visible cameras and InGaAs technology to improve detection. PROfile technology removes wires from WEEE/ELV residue Broadband LED Lighting The SORTEX A MultiVision uses a high-intensity, ultra-fl exible, broadband LED lighting system. Not only is it energy effi cient and durable, but it generates less heat, while producing more light, contributing to sorting consistency, over a longer period of time. 11 SORTEX Customer Care. Secure tomorrow s profits today. Solutions and support to ensure that your optical sorter is performing to maximum efficiency, delivering maximum productivity and making a maximum return on investment. Bühler s worldwide Customer Care organisation delivers the highest quality local support by offering a variety of services under SORTEX Total Care*. SORTEX Total Care SORTEX Total Care offers customers the opportunity to create their own service package, composed of individual service features, to best suit their needs. Customers have the flexibility to create their most (cost) effective programme - whether that covers just those areas of prime concern, or a fullycomprehensive cover. Comprehensive cover is suitable for customers who require continuous operation of the optical sorter where the processing line is of the utmost importance. This way, customers can ensure that their investment is fully protected. Customers can tailor their individual package from the following options. WearCare - Preventative Maintenance A fixed number of visits per year. During the visit an engineer will carry out checks, adjustments and when necessary replace consumable or wear parts. RepairCare - Emergency Repair In the unlikely event of the machine failing, an engineer will visit and repair the optical sorter. EjectorCare - Ejector Service and Repair When the ejectors reach their refurbish point an engineer will visit to replace the ejectors with the appropriate number of units for the whole machine. AnywareCare - Anyware Health Check and Alerts The Anyware system allows the performance of optical sorters to be monitored remotely. This diagnostic system facilitates a quicker response to any issues that might emerge. It automatically s an alert message to the server, if an optical sorter develops a fault, or begins to operate outside normal working parameters. An authorised engineer reviews the information in the alert, and advises whether adjustment is needed, or if the problem needs further attention. SORTEX Spares Kits For customers who require spare parts available on site, Bühler s technologists have created appropriate spares kits for the different machinery available. SORTEX Upgrade Kits Customers seeking the latest technology available on their optical sorter - whether software or extra functionality - benefit from a range of upgrade kits available. * All contracts are available for different durations Recycled and Virgin Plastics Brochure 11
