2 Showing others the way... We recognise the value of mentoring in ensuring competent future leadership of the tourism industry. Tourism is a key industry supporting the economic sustainability of the Mornington Peninsula. This mentoring program aims to provide young people in their final years of tourism studies or already working in the tourism industry the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals who are willing to share their expertise. The program matches young professionals with a mentor and both parties receive professional development to strengthen their leadership capabilities. Program Goals To provide opportunities for young professionals studying or working in tourism to meet and learn from experienced professionals. To provide tourism professionals an opportunity to become mentors and enhance their existing leadership and communication skills. To create a positive image around tourism and hospitality pathways in regional Victoria and develop an agile workforce of leaders into the future. To raise professional standards of the local tourism industry. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Program launch breakfast with all participants 3 hour program introduction and session on positive communication and coaching upskill with leadership expert Mel Neil Four 1:1 one hour sessions with a tourism mentee Half day mid-program professional development session with Mel Neil to review and refine skills An expert lead debrief and celebratory dinner at the conclusion of the program The opportunity to build your network and refine your mentoring skills to better equip you into the future The program is capped at a maximum of only 10 mentors and 10 mentees. 1

3 MENTOR REQUIREMENTS Should be experienced successful tourism industry professionals with at least 10 years tourism industry experience across more than one role Must be currently employed by a partner of Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism (click here to see a full list of businesses) Ability to make time available for their mentees and commit to meet with their mentee at least four times during the mentorship process between April 2019-August Be open to further developing their mentoring skills Be able to create an environment in which mentees will feel at ease Be able to communicate effectively with mentees Be able to encourage mentees to develop the confidence, understanding and skills to meet their personal and business objectives; and Please Note: Applicants must be available to attend a compulsory half day workshop on 26th March Who should apply? Anyone currently working in the Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism Industry with at least 10 years tourism industry experience looking to enhance leadership skills in a meaningful way. We are seeking leaders who offer a wide skill set who have plenty to offer a younger person entering or newly entered in the industry. Questions? Call Ebony on to discuss. 2

4 Definition of mentoring Mentoring is a planned pairing of a more experienced person with a lesser skilled individual for the purpose of achieving mutually agreed outcomes. It is a partnership in which both individuals share in a growth process and the personal development of one another. 5 Application Information Please ensure that you read this information carefully before submitting your application MENTOR APPLICATION PROCESS 1. Submit an application and resume via to to apply for the program. Submissions close 5pm Thursday 21st February All applicants will be notified via from MPRT by March 8th 2019 notifying them of the outcome of their application. KEY DATES & PROGRAM OUTLINE Application Results Notification: 8 March 2019 You will receive a welcome call and from the Mornington Peninsula Regional Tourism team and notification of who your tourism mentee will be for the duration of the program. We aim to match you with a mentee based on their experiences and what you hope to gain as outlined in your application. Launch Breakfast & Mentor Workshop 1 : 26 March 2019 The purpose of this compulsory breakfast event is to introduce you to the program and fellow participants. It is followed by a 3 hour workshop facilitated by leadership expert Mel Neil to further define expectations, explore positive communication and coaching throughout the program. Mentors are to attend the full 3 hour workshop whereas mentees will leave the group after the first hour. Mentoring Sessions: Held between April 2019-August 2019 A series of four one hour 1:1 mentoring sessions with your allocated mentee over a 4-month period organised at times which are suitable to both parties. This is a core element of the program and a highlight for the mentees you are paired with to give them the opportunity to develop. Mentor Workshop 2: 4 June 2019 A mid-program professional development workshop for mentors with Mel Neil to review and refine skills. This is an opprortunity to discuss what is working well, challenges that are being faced with their mentees and challenges with the application of the learnings. Program Review: 28 August 2019 Following the completion of the final element of the program is a debrief session followed by a dinner to celebrate your journey through the program. Post Program: September 2019 onwards From here what happens next is up to you. By now you will have connected with many new faces in the tourism industry and gained valuable tools to help you in your role and into the future. Many mentors and mentees may continue the relationship beyond the life of the program which is up to the individuals involved. You may apply to be part of the Future Leaders Program steering committee for the following year. Venues and locations for all workshops and the program review are to be confirmed prior to the commencement of the program.
