1 SUNFLOWER ELECTRIC POWER CORPORATION RESPONSIBILITY OUTLINE Position Title Heavy Equipment Operator Date March 2016 Trainee Department Lines Pay Status Hourly Reports To Line Technician Supervisor FLSA Category Nonexempt Function Location Transmission O & M Garden City EEO Category 6 SUMMARY Operate Sunflower heavy equipment and assist crews in working with the transmission line system. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Equipment Operation Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, skid steer, backhoe, forklift, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), pullers, and tensioners, dozers, man lifts, and tele-handlers. Inspect and ensure all heavy loads are rigged appropriately and in a safe manner. Identify, alert, and assist with emergency conditions. Heavy Equipment Maintenance Inspect, diagnose, and assist with preventive and other maintenance needed on trucks, heavy equipment, and hydraulic systems. Maintain usage and service records. Other Transmission Responsibilities Work with line crew to construct, reconstruct, maintain, and inspect the transmission lines and substations. Assist line technicians with other duties including installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing transmission lines and restoring service to Members, as required, and under direct supervision. Maintain and clean equipment and shop area and assist with housekeeping duties as required. Perform inspections of chains, boomers, hoist, and rigging equipment maintaining documentation and records. Maintain inventory of slings, chains, boomers for lifting, rigging, and tying down loads. Assist with the Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections for heavy equipment, trailers, and pickups. Assist the Safety Department with complying with current state and federal regulations associated with DOT regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS Certifications and Licenses Must obtain and maintain a Class A commercial driver s license (CDL) within six months of date of hire. Must obtain and maintain a Brake Inspector certificate within one year of date of hire. Must obtain and maintain Mobile Crane Operations and Crane Riggers certifications within two years of date of hire. Education and Experience High school diploma and one year of experience operating commercial equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Must be able to operate heavy equipment and be able to learn to operate crane, digger, bucket truck, semi-trucks/trailers, and associated line equipment. Able to read, understand, and comply with load charts for the safe operation of equipment. Able to gain knowledge of compliance of DOT rules and regulations. Able to learn the fundamentals of electricity. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform preventive and basic vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance. Able to work independently and cooperatively with others.

3 Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Able to operate computers and associated programs at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Other Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license. Able to travel to all Sunflower sites and attend training and meetings out of state as needed. Able to work outside of normal working hours in varying weather conditions, including stormy weather, wind, and rain. Promotion Requirements Employees are expected to progress through the training during the prescribed time period to the heavy equipment operator level as a condition of employment per the standards of training for the craft of heavy equipment operator.
