1 Plan for Assessment for AAS Degree Architectural Design & Drafting November 12, 2010 Item 1 List the learning outcomes for your AAS Degree: for Plan: 1. Design a residential or small commercial project responsive to site conditions, user requirements, codes and construction standards, and aesthetic and environmental considerations. 2. Produce architectural drawings using computer-aided drafting software. 3. Produce a set of construction documents that describe the construction requirements for a project, using accepted industry practices. for Plan: 4. Communicate with design professionals, clients, and engineers, using industry specific terminology and graphics. 6. Complete all phases of the design and documentation process with consideration of its impact on the natural world.

Setting A Portfolio Review of a Capstone project will provide the setting for the assessment for the three (above) Degree. The term project for ARCH 203 (6 credits) is a Capstone project that uses and synthesizes many skills from the program's curriculum; providing an excellent setting for evaluating these. The term project becomes part of a portfolio, and will be evaluated by an industry expert. This Capstone project provides the base for a student's professional portfolio, which they will use at job interviews for their Cooperative Work Education sites, and eventually for their job search. Approach Assessment will be based on depth and breadth of design response to site, program, codes, construction standards, aesthetic and environmental considerations. Assessment will be based on completeness of drawings, and their ability to communicate the architectural drawing requirements. Setting A Portfolio Review of two projects will provide the setting for the assessment for these three of these Degree. The term project for ARCH 203 (6 credits) is a Capstone project that uses and synthesizes many skills related to structural and building systems, and construction materials; requiring industry specific terminology and graphics. The term project for ARCH 224 (4 credits) is a Capstone project that uses and synthesizes many skills from the program's curriculum related to building systems, and their impact on the natural world. These two project s becomes part of a portfolio, and will be evaluated by an industry expert. This Capstone project provides the base for a student's professional portfolio, which they will use at job interviews for their Cooperative Work Education sites, and eventually for their job search.
