The (LSL) of Italian Breeders Association (AIA) was born in 1990 thanks to the contribute of the Ministry of Agriculture (MIPAAF). The main mission was to coordinate the activity of the 25 AIA-LSL laboratories. The analytical coordination cover an important role because the analytical results produced are an important factor and they are used for DHI improvements. The main activities of LSL are the production of reference materials and the organization of proficiencies test. About 200 laboratories of the Italian dairy sector, participate in the proficiency tests and use reference materials (industries, private laboratories, public institutes for animal health and universities). The LSL is certified CSQA according the ISO 9001:2008 for Design and Production of certified reference materials for dairy sector, design, organization and carrying out of Proficiency Test and it is accreditated Accredia_SINAL department (N.138). The LSL s staff is member of national and international organization of standardization as ISO,IDF and UNI. This participation is important to refer in these committees the daily problems and analytical difficulties met by the LSL s clients. All these observations are collected by the LSL staff with an active and proactive listening. 2
The LSL s staff is very well educated and motivated to orient the customers in the right choose of our reference materials and proficiency test to control and improve own analytical accuracy. To facilitate the plan activities of our customers we provide an annual calendar with our supplying. We sincerely hope that this catalogue could be an useful tool to check your analytical processes. 3
REFERENCE MATERIALS INTRODUCTION The use of Reference Materials is an important tool to verify the accuracy long the time, to validate a new method or the modifications on a standard method. If it is used in a system of quality assurance is an objective tool that allows the quality of analytical results according the ISO IEC DESCRIPTION The provides Reference Materials according ISO Guide 34:2000 General Requirements for the competence of reference material producers e ILAC G12:2000 Guidelines for the Requirements for the Competence of Reference Materials Producers. The batch homogeneity is checked according the ISO 13528:2005 Statistical methods for use in Proficiency Testing by Interlaboratory Comparisons. The assigned value is obtained with the execution of reference method (if it is not differently specified) and the specific proficiency test. The high number of participants and an accurate statistical elaboration assure that the characterization procedure is independent and objective. The objectivity of reference materials is also due to the confront with others European providers. In the certificate of Reference Materials is reported the parameter s value, 4
its uncertainty (expressed as standard deviation of reproducibility). USE Each Reference Material is specific and it must be used according the specification reported in the technical sheet and the instruction for its use. The stability and homogeneity of Reference Materials is assured till the expire date reported if the sample is maintained and preserved according the instructions. The Reference Materials if are opened should be used as soon as possible. The provider doesn t assure the homogeneity and stability if the sample is splitted in sub-samples DATA COMMUNICATION The certificate of the reference material is sent by and published on the web site: 5

PROFICIENCY TEST INTRODUCTION Taking part in the Proficiency Test you can evaluate your accuracy and stability long time term. If it is used in a context of quality assurance it is an objective tool to check the reliability of analytical results as requested by ISO IEC Description The Proficiency Test provided by AIA-LSL are planned and provided according ISO Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods and results -- Part 2: Basic method for the determination of repeatability and reproducibility of a standard measurement method, ILAC G13:08/2007 Guidelines for Requirements or the Competence of Providers of Proficiency Testing Scheme. According these International Standard AIA-LSL assures that all data are maintained anonymous. Each Proficiency Test has enclosed with a detailed protocol with the sample description matrix, indication on analyses execution and how to send back the results. 32
USE The participation to the Proficiency Test allows to validate and to verify alternative method, because it is possible to identify the systematic error (trueness) or random (repeatability and reproducibility) of your analyses. The Proficiency Test is use to characterize the reference materials as well. The results obtained in the trials it is important to plan the corrective actions to maintain stable the analytical process of the laboratory. DATA COMMUNICATION The report of the Proficiency Test will be send by to the participants and separately each participant will receive the own code of identification. The report will be published on the web site: The download is allowed to the clients that previously require Username and Password to AIA-LSL. 33
