This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualification* listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill the current vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification in the Office of Highway Development (Baltimore City). This position serves as the Professional Land Surveyor managing a production team for the Plats and Surveys Division's (PSD). This position and its team are directly responsible for providing all geomatic services (including land surveying and right of way determination) to support corridor projects, the long term "Total Maximum Daily Load" (TMDL) initiative and other projects for the State Highway Administration. This position is directly responsible for the management and administration of a team of professional, paraprofessional and technical Transportation Engineers, and Land Surveyors applying land surveying and engineering theories, principles and standards to provide a variety of land surveying services for transportation projects statewide for the State Highway Administration (SHA) and other Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) modals. This position is administratively and professionally responsible for the management, coordination, preparation and performance of all the various geomatic tasks, whether performed by in-house staff or through consultant

2 resources, necessary to produce land surveying products including, but not limited to: topographic surveys; baseline design and computations; determination of existing rights of way and property boundaries; mosaic development; work map design; exhibit development for legal and/or informative purposes; proposed right of way design and determination; plat design and preparation; deed description preparation; baseline and right of way stake out computations and offset design; and other services and products used for the support of design and planning efforts for the development of transportation projects and for the acquisition or conveyance of land rights for the SHA and other MDOT modals. This position is professionally responsible for reviewing, signing and sealing of plats and other products developed by various team members within the division. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in professional engineering, including (for the II level only) one year of supervisory or consultant management experience. Selective Qualification: Three years and six months (3 years and 6 months) of experience in one or more of the following: (1) plat preparation with at least one year of experience overseeing a plat preparation team or; (2) experience as a geomatics engineer with a minimum of one year of project management or; (3) a survey or civil engineer office production manager. *A selective qualification recruitment is conducted for positions when there is a specific or additional bona fide occupational qualification (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability). Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of

Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have one (1) year of supervisory experience, good customer relations skills are imperative in this position due to the interaction with a wide variety of offices and the general public, good computer skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel Access and PowerPoint). Individuals must have the ability to: communicate effectively, both oral and written; interpret engineering and construction plans and specifications; must have strong project management skills and be able to manage multiple tasks and subordinate staff simultaneously; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, fellow employees, consultants and the public. Knowledge of current survey tools, software, as well as CADD, GPS and GIS is essential. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Applicant must possess a current Maryland Professional Land Surveyor license or be registered as a Land Surveyor in another state with registration requirements similar to Maryland's registration requirements for Professional Land Surveyors. Applicant must be in good standing with their state's professional registration board. In the case that a successful candidate with an out of state license is chosen, the applicant must obtain their Maryland Professional Land Surveyor's license within one year of being appointed into this position. Probation for this position will be one (1) year as to give the employee time to get reciprocity. The Maryland Property Land Surveyor WILL NOT be accepted for this position.
