5 MSR Mobile Unit by Unit Comparison WHAT IS THERMAL DESORPTION? Thermal desorption is an ex-situ treatment technology - utilizing heat to increase volatility of contaminants so they can be removed from a solid matrix: typically soil, sludge, filter cake, or drill cuttings. Desorbers are designed as a separation technology to remove organic compounds from such matrices without thermally destroying them. The volatilized contaminants are then either collected or thermally destroyed in secondary treatment units. A thermal desorption system therefore has two major components: the desorber itself and an off-gas treatment system. Thermal desorption is a thermal soil remediation technique that has been utilized at several hundred environmental remediation projects worldwide. As a mature technology, thermal soil remediation can be applied to a wide variety of problems, and its performance predicted with a very high degree of confidence TONS PER HOUR 80 to d Direct fired system Highly portable two trailer unit Process high chlorine contents Utilized at Superfund Sites. 525d Direct fired system Highly portable two trailer unit Medium capacity with a small footprint Utilized routinely for upstream Oil & Gas FUEL OPTIONS Natural Gas to d 432i Propane Direct fired system Portable eight trailer unit Highest capacity unit in North America Utilized for petroleum and VOC impacted material Indirectly heated system Portable single trailer unit Processes hazardous chlorinated solvents Utilized at electronics mfg and dry cleaners sites #2 Diesel MOBILE UNITS SETUP TIME CONTAMINANTS TREATED AVG. 14 "A simple, quiet, easily permitted ex-situ thermal process designed especially for the remediation of soils impacted with Hazardous or Non-Hazardous chlorinated solvents." THE 432i POSSESSES THE FOLLOWING KEY CHARACTERISTICS INDIRECT-FIRED No flame or products of combustion contact the material being treated. PERMITTING With little to no emissions and indirect heating, the 432i is easily permitted. QUIET The loudest part of the process is the heavy equipment as it is used to load and unload the system. HIGH PERFORMANCE Consistently reduces soil contaminant concentrations by over 99%. SIMPLICITY The 432i is a batch soil remediation process, and is made up of very few moving parts. QUICK/EASY SETUP The 432i can be mobilized, setup and operational in a single day. SMALL FOOTPRINT The entire system takes up less than a 10 x 74 area. EXTREMELY TRANSPORTABLE The unit can be quickly and easily transported from site to site to process quantities as little as a couple hundred tons. ON-SITE TREATMENT Avoid hauling multiple truckloads of material to a permitted landfill. Treated soils are placed back into the excavation. PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM Primary Condenser 01 Process Chamber Contaminated Soil Secondary Condenser Treated Soil Out Steam Generator Liquid Cooling Filtration System Water Storage "Providing a rapid site remediation solution, the 432i is a highly portable single trailer system routinely used at electrical manufacturing facilities and dry cleaner sites across the US. Treating 8 cubic yards per hour on average, this process quickly renders contaminated soils suitable for reuse on site. Utilizing low pressure steam, chlorinated organics are stripped from the soil and collected on activated carbon for easy management."
