1 CSI SECTION FIBER REINFORCED STUCCO PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. Section Description: Provided lath and plaster where shown on the Drawings, as specified herein, and as needed for complete and proper Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco Installation. B. Related Work: Documents affecting work of this section includes, but are not necessarily limited to, General Conditions, Supplementary Conditions, and sections in Division 1 of these specifications. 1. Section Concrete 2. Section Concrete Unit Masonry 3. Section Wood Framing 4. Section Metal Lath 1.02 STUCCO SYSTEM DESCRIPTION EDITOR NOTE: MODIFY BELOW TO SUIT PROJECT REQUIREMENTS. A. Description of Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco System: 1. Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco System: A proprietary mixture of Portland cement, sand, fibers and proprietary ingredients installed over wire fabric or metal lath. B. Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco System Functional Criteria: 1. General: Stucco application shall be vertical or shall be protected from weather exposure harmful to coating performance, and shall be sloped for positive drainage. 2. Substrate Conditions: a. Substrates shall be sound, dry and free of dust, dirt, debris, and efflorescence and other harmful contaminates. b. Substrate Dimensional Tolerances: Flat with ¼ (6.4 mm) within any 4 foot (122 cm) radius. 3. Expansion Joints: Continuous expansion joints shall be installed at locations in accordance with manufacture s recommendations. a. 2 1.02 SUBMITTALS One Coat Stucco and adjacent materials shall be taken into design of expansion joints, with proper consideration given to sealant properties, installation conditions, temperature range, coefficients of expansion of materials, joint with to depth ratios, and other material factors. Minimum width of expansion joints shall be as recommended by coating manufacturer. A. General: Submit Samples, Evaluation Reports, Certificates and Manufacture s Warranty in accordance with Division 1 General Requirements Submittal Section. 1. Samples: Submit samples for approval. Samples shall be of materials specified and of suitable size as required to accurately represent each color and texture to be used on project. Prepare each sample using same tools and techniques for actual project application. Maintain and make available at job site approved samples QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Qualifications: 1. Regulatory Requirements: Lath and plaster materials and workmanship shall meet the requirements of the building codes, which are applicable to the jurisdiction in which the project is located. 2. Coating Applicator: Shall be experienced and competent in installation of stucco-like materials PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Delivery: Deliver coating products in original packaging with manufacturer s identification. B. Storage: Store stucco system products in dry location, off the ground, protected from moisture conditions harmful to product performance PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS A. Environmental conditions: Comply with manufacture s recommendations of environmental conditions affecting product performance. 1. Installation Ambient Air Temperature: Minimum of 40 degrees F (4.4 degree s C) and rising, and remain so for 24 hours thereafter. 2. Substrate Temperature: Do not apply stucco system to substrates whose temperature is below 40 degrees F (4.4 degree s C). 3. Inclement Weather: Do not apply stucco system during inclement weather, unless appropriate protection is employed, which would negate manufacture s warranty for installation. 4. Sunlight Exposure: Avoid stucco system installation where finish coat is exposed to a hot sun. Comply with manufacture s recommendations for warranty installation. SECTION Fiber Reinforced Stucco 2
3 5. Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco System materials shall not be applied if ambient temperature exceeds 110 degree s F (43.3 C) within 24 hours of application. Protect stucco from uneven and excessive evaporation during hot, dry weather. 6. Prior to installation, the wall shall be free of residual moisture. B. Coordination and Scheduling: 1. Coordination: Coordinate stucco system installation with other construction operations. 2. Sealant Installation Coordination: Upon full cure of surfaces to be sealed, install sealant in accordance with sealant manufacture s recommendations. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURES A. Manufacturer: Basalite West Linne Road, Tracy, CA 95376: Basalite 2600 Boeing way, Carson City, NV System: Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco System. a. Stucco Base: Pre-mixed fiber reinforced stucco, factory blended Portland cement, chopped fiber strands, proprietary additives and sand. b. Finish: EDITOR NOTE: SPECIFY BELOW TYPES FROM MANUFACTURE S TEXTURE FINISHES AND COLORS MATERIALS 1) Type: 2) Finish Texture: 3) Color: A. Stucco Materials: Fiber-Reinforced Stucco (Concentrate): Pacific One Coat Stucco is a proprietary mixture of Portland Cement, sand, fibers, water and proprietary ingredients 5-6 gal.( liters) of potable water and approximately 300 lbs. (136 kg) of sand, complying with ASTM C-897 to be field added. B. Substrate Materials: 1. Insulation Board: Minimum 1 (2.54 cm) thick tongue and groove rigid insulation board with a nominal density of 1.5 lb. per cubic ft.(.24 kg/m3) (U.B.C. section 1712) Class 1 flame rating and smoke density less than Gypsum Sheathing: Gypsum Sheathing Board: Minimum ½ (12.7 mm) thick, core-treated, weather-resistant, exterior gypsum sheathing complying with ASTM C 79 or ASTM C 1177 and complying with U.B.C. 4 3. Fiberboard: Minimum ½ (12.7 mm) thick fiberboard complying with U.B.C. Standard No Plywood: minimum 5/16 (7.9 mm) thick exterior grade or exposure I plywood for studs spaced 16 (6.4 mm) o.c. and 3/8 (9.5 mm) thick exterior type plywood minimum for studs spaced 24 (610 mm) o.c. Plywood shall comply with U.B.C. Standard No Oriented Structural Board (OSB): Minimum 7/16 (11 mm) thick, exposure 1, may be used with framing as for plywood RELATED MATERIALS INSTALLATION A. Weather-Resistible Barrier: Minimum Grade D Kraft building paper complying with U.B.C. Standard No or asphalt-saturated felt complying with U.B.C. Standard No is required. B. Lath: Lath as shown in Table 47-B, U.B.C. with minimum 1 (25.4 mm) x 20 gauge (0.88 mm) galvanized wire fabric lath. C. Accessories: As specified in ASTM C PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 MANUFACTURER S INSTRUCTIONS A. Compliance: Comply with manufacture s instructions for installation of stucco system. B. Substrate Examination: Examine prior to stucco system installation substrate as follows: 1. Substrate shall be of a type approved by Basalite. Plywood and OSB substrates shall be gapped 1/8 (3 mm) between panels, except that the 4 foot edges of OSB panels shall be gapped ¼ (6.4 mm). 2. Substrate shall be examined for soundness, and other harmful conditions. 3. Substrate shall be free of dust, dirt, debris, efflorescence, and other harmful contaminants PREPARATION A. Field Mixing: Mix proprietary products in accordance with manufacture s instructions, including Basalite Product Data Sheet INSTALLATION A. General: The stucco system installation shall conform to this specification and Basalite Product Data Sheets. B. Stucco Coating: Install stucco base, minimum 3/8 (9.5 mm) thick; moist cured. The stucco mixture shall be applied in one or two coats to a minimum thickness of SECTION Fiber Reinforced Stucco 4
5 3/8 (9.5 mm) by hand troweling or machine spraying the mixture to the wire lath in accordance with Pacific Stucco One Coat Stucco Product Data Sheet. If Portland Cement Stucco finish coat is being used and is not applied within 24 hours, a bonder shall be sprayed on the base coat or added to the Portland cement finish stucco mix for additional bonding. 1. Application: Keep stucco moist for at least 48 hours by lightly fogging walls. 2. Curing: Keep fogging after plaster takes initial set. C. Finish: Apply according to Basalite Product Data Sheet RELATED MATERIALS INSTALLATION A. General: installation of related materials shall conform to this specification. B. For One- Hour fire rated assemblies see ICBO Report #5269 C. Substrate Materials: 1. Insulation Board (If Included In Project): Install in a running bond pattern. Rigid insulation board shall be applied directly over studs spaced a maximum of 24 (610 mm) o.c. The insulation boards shall be placed horizontally with tongues upward to prevent water penetration. All vertical butt joints shall be tight, staggered and occur on studs. The insulation boards shall be temporarily held in place with galvanized staples, roofing nails or self-tapping screws. 2. Gypsum Sheathing: A minimum ½ (12.7 mm) thick, core-treated, exterior gypsum board shall be installed directly over wood or metal studs spaced a maximum of 24 (610 mm) o.c. The gypsum sheathing shall be temporarily held in place with corrosion-resistant staples, roof nails or self-tapping screws. On layer or grade D, style 2 paper is applied over the gypsum sheathing, and metal lath is applied and fastened to studs through the substrate. 3. Fiberboard: a minimum ½ (12.7 mm) thickness shall be applied over wood and metal studs, spaced a maximum of 24 (610 mm) o.c. The fiberboard shall be installed in the same manner as described for gypsum sheathing and plywood. 4. Plywood: 5/16 (7.9 mm) thick with studs spacing of 16 (406 mm) o.c. and 3/8 (9.5 mm) with studs spacing of 24 (610 mm) o.c., or OSB 7/16 (11.1 mm) thick, may be installed directly over wood or metal studs. One layer of grade D, style 2 paper shall be applied over the plywood, and metal lath shall be applied and fastened to studs through the substrate. D. Weather Resistive Barrier: The weather-resistive barrier is placed over all substrates except for EPS board where the barrier may be behind the board. Application of the barrier must comply with Section 1707 (a), of the code. E. Lath: Shall be galvanized, corrosion-resistant, self-furred or furred. Install in accordance with ASTM D (Exception: Unfurred lath is permitted over rigid insulation boards.) Outside corners shall be reinforced. Apply metal lath with long dimension across supports, without buckles or sags. Attach metal lath through sheathing to framing. SECTION Fiber Reinforced Stucco 5

Accessories: Install in accordance with ASTM D Use minimum No. 11 gauge galvanized nails, having a 3/8 (9.5 mm) diameter head or No. 16 gauge galvanized staples and length sufficient to penetrate wood framing not less than 1: (25.4 mm), spaced 6 (152 mm) o.c. Staples shall have a minimum crown width of 7/8 (22 mm) (O.D.) for attachment to No.18 gauge metal studs, the application is similar except No. 8 self-tapping screws are used at 8 (20.32 cm) o.c. with minimum ½ (12.7 mm) penetration CLEAN-UP A. Removal: Remove and legally dispose of stucco system installation debris material from job site. END OF SECTION This guide specification is intended for use by a qualified designer. The guide specification is not intended to be used verbatim as an actual specification without appropriate modifications for the specific use intended.
