1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Program / Unit: Coordinator Specialist Family Services Community Programs Term: Part-time Award/Agreement: Modern Award Classification: Level 7 Position reports to: Manager Community Programs ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT Established in 1997 MacKillop Family Services (MacKillop) continues the child and family welfare ministries of the Christian Brothers (Oceania), the Sisters of Mercy (Melbourne) and the Sisters of St. Joseph (Victoria) in Western Sydney, Wollongong, NSW South Coast, Melbourne, Geelong, Warrnambool and Perth. Programs include Home Based and Residential Care, Refugee Services, Disability Services, Youth Support, Education and Training, Family Support and support of women and men who as children were in the care of our founding agencies. MacKillop Family Services involves a staff of some 800 personnel and nearly 420 volunteers. Operating out of more than 30 sites our budget expenditure is $65 million. MacKillop Family Services has embarked upon a journey of change through its adoption of the Sanctuary Model. The Sanctuary model is underpinned by the commitments of: Nonviolence, Emotional Intelligence, Social Learning, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, Democracy, Growth and Change The Sanctuary Model is a blueprint for clinical and organisational change which, at its core, promotes safety and recovery from adversity through the active creation of a trauma-informed community. POSITION PURPOSE This position will lead and coordinate the Family Preservation Service, and the Alcohol and Other Drug AOD Family Services (Substance Abuse Family Support Service SAFS & the AOD Family Counselling Service) at the Footscray office. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring high quality practice and supervision for a small team and implementing service re-developments as required. The Coordinator will oversee the administration, coordination and reporting arrangements for each of the services. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES Reporting to the Manager Community Programs and working closely with a small team of professional staff the Coordinator of Specialist Family Services is primarily responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality case work and counselling services that meet service targets and the needs of vulnerable children, young people and families. Additionally the position is required to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships and partnerships with Child Protection Services, Alcohol and Other Drug Services, and other organisational and community agency stakeholders. KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, coach and provide supervision, appraisal and support for direct reports in accordance with MacKillop s policies. Constructively participate in supervision with the Manager Community Programs. Lead the Family Preservation team and the Substance Abuse Family Support Service and AOD worker in providing high quality services to meet the needs of vulnerable children, young people and families in a positive work environment conducive to effective team work. Ensure the services are consistent with a strengths based model and that the best interests of the child are paramount in decision making. Facilitate and manage referral processes for the Services including case allocation, prioritisation and review. Manage relevant data bases and reporting systems and provide data and reports to the Manager Community Programs as required.

3 Provide required service reports to funding bodies at designated reporting periods throughout the year. Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships and partnerships with Child Protection Services, Alcohol and other Drug Services, and other organisational and community agency stakeholders and actively participate on identified local networks and advocacy groups. Ensure that appropriate protocols, required service standards and client information systems are maintained as per funding agreement and MacKillop Family Services requirements. Develop opportunities and processes which promote input and feedback from staff, clients and other professionals to assist with service development and quality improvement. Participate in reviews and evaluation to help facilitate the development of best practice within the Services and in continuous quality improvement initiatives. Actively support and champion the roll out of the Sanctuary model across all aspects of the programs, and manage the programs in line with the seven Sanctuary commitments; Open Communication, Nonviolence, Emotional Intelligence, Social learning, Democracy, Social Responsibility, and Growth and Change. Foster a spirit of cooperation by demonstrating strong communication and conflict resolution skills. Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities, supervision and performance appraisals as appropriate with the Manager Community Programs. Actively participate in Community Programs Leadership meetings. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated team building capacity and experience in providing leadership and supervision for staff. Demonstrated experience and skills in working with vulnerable children, young people and families. Demonstrated professional knowledge of issues that vulnerable children, young people and families face. Sound knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and policies relating to child welfare and the best interests of the child. A well-developed understanding of the impact of Alcohol and Other Drug usage for vulnerable families and appropriate interventions and support.

4 Demonstrated capacity to achieve service goals and targets within budget and time lines. Demonstrated capacity to develop collaborative relationships across professional and organisational boundaries. Highly developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation, written, verbal and computer skills. Demonstrated capacity in writing reports for funding bodies and other stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to run a well organised system, in the face of multiple pressures and competing demands for time and resources. Understanding and commitment to the objectives and values of the organisation and a capacity to represent MacKillop views as required by the role. Relevant Tertiary Qualifications. OTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION The incumbent is required to: Observe and actively support MacKillop s WH&S policy and strategy. Attend mandatory and other training as required. Actively participate in MacKillop s Bid Management process when appropriate Undertake other duties as required.
