1 JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Library Makers Project Coordinator POST: Temporary till March DEPARTMENT: RESPONSIBLE TO: GRADE: Luton Libraries Head of Libraries and Learning L5 PURPOSE OF POST: To work as part of the Luton Culture s Libraries Team to develop and deliver the community participation for Library Makers. By creating and understanding the needs and opportunities for community co-production and to increase participation, access and inclusion in the sustainability of Luton Libraries. 2 PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES % 1. Lead, as part of The Library Makers team, the recruitment to the project and communication of its idea to a diverse number of community groups in Luton to encourage buy-in and long term sustainable support and to build trust and effective communication to understand the needs of the communities involved 2. Support and advise The Library Makers project team in gaining support from the community in the project and the resulting programmes and evaluation. Broker conversations, new partnership and build trust between parties and the community. 3 Support the Library Makers Project Manager and project team with evaluation (writing project briefs and reports) and dissemination work, consultation panels, community liaison, networking and supporting the wider cultural community sector. Develop and maintain contact and awareness of programme and its development with partners, stakeholders and the project team 4 Supervision of the Library Makers Volunteers Assistant, liaising with the Volunteer and Workforce Development Coordinator to this end. 5 Assist manager in support, develop and be responsible for Luton Culture s Library Maker groups with special focus in gaining their support for the Library Makers project. 6 Oversee delegated budget administration working with the Library Makers Project Manager and with other senior colleagues. 7. Contribute to Community Engagement initiatives across Luton Culture DIMENSIONS: Supervisory Management: Library Makers Volunteers Assistant Volunteers and work experience students Financial Resources: The postholder is not a cost centre manager but will manage day to day budgets related to the Library Makers project. Other The nature of the work undertaken by the post holder means that some out of office hours working in the evenings and weekends is required as and when necessary, but approximately not more than four times a month. CONTEXT: Luton Culture is a charitable trust which comprises the museums, libraries and arts in Luton. The services were formerly part of Luton Borough Council and became an independent registered charity in March Luton Borough Council is the charity s main funder and partner. Other key funding includes Arts Council funding to both museums and arts. The Library Makers project is funded through Arts Council England and runs until 31 March Its purpose is to create a network of volunteer community advocates who will support library development and ensure it meets the needs of vulnerable users and non-users. As part of the project, Library Makers will be challenged to codesign spaces within Luton Central Library, as well as develop new and engaging activities for library users both in and out of the library. The post holder will report directly to the Library Makers Project Manager. They will maintain a close working relationship with the Volunteer & Workforce Development Coordinator and the Library Makers Support Worker, along with other Luton Culture colleagues. They will line manage the Library Makers Volunteer Assistant. Skills/ Abilities Demonstrable experience of community participation and engagement techniques. Demonstrable experience of working in the cultural sector (arts, museums or libraries). Able to plan workload within an agreed framework to meet deadlines and conflicting work priorities with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Some experience of involving a range of people in decision making, including young people and those that are vulnerable. Able to plan and deliver activities for people with a range of abilities and ages. Able to undertake project planning, project delivery including monitoring and evaluation to a high standard. Demonstrable communication and listening skills: Able to work creatively and sensitively with diverse groups of people, including those that are vulnerable, and develop partnerships with professionals, communities and key partners. Able to produce good quality, clear documents such as project briefs, reports, and information leaflets using Microsoft Office suite or equivalent packages

Professional qualification in community or youth work or relevant educational qualification or equivalent experience.,4 Able to work outside of normal working hours during evenings and weekends about 4 times per month. Able to work across Luton Culture s sites when necessary to work with other teams in order to meet the business requirements of the organisation. Awareness and understanding of the Luton Culture s charitable status and activities and the ability to explain these to customers to help seek support, including donations where - 5 -
