1 Class Title: LSA Status: Non-Exempt BRIE DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to keep GIS utility mapping current by maintaining and updating the field information, and to assign daily duties to subordinates in order to provide services of accurately locating and marking water distribution lines and valves and wastewater collection lines, provides direct input related to new utilities proposed for construction and replacement of existing utilities. Establishes a systematic methodology in monitoring water conservation by utilizing leak correlator and loggers for leak detection, serves as the on-call supervisor as scheduled, trains and mentors subordinates, recommends prioritization of leaks to be repaired, attends CIP project meetings, coordinates on site meetings with contractors and consultants. Works with Engineering in making determinations and improvements to city waterlines. orwards changes to IT personnel for updating water and sewer maps. 2 L Maintains water and wastewater utility lines by locating, identifying and marking utilities infrastructure by utilizing the resources of plans and researching most recent as-builds. Researches complaints in the field with leak detection equipment or other specialized equipment; and controls water leaks. 3 L Supervises a crew of two by assigning daily tasks, conducting performance evaluations and PIP/disciplinary actions on direct reports. Will supervise night and weekend crews; on scheduled standby rotation, and coordinating utility activities with entities such as TxDot, DART, ATT, Oncor, and Atmos. 4 L Assess method of repair and direct the crew on repairs by visiting job site, assigning work to crews, coordinating jobs for crews ensuring work is completed accurately and in a timely manner. Attends preconstruction and technical meetings, coordinates placement of franchise utilities. Page 1

2 5 L Provides customer service to internal and external customers by collecting information from customers; researching complaints; maintaining contact with other utility departments, and is the main point of contact to customer; assumes responsibility for daily appointments 6 Leak Correlation and Detection by establishing and managing the leak detection on water lines by placing logger detection devices throughout the system and gathering data for assessing possible indications of leaks. Pinpoints leaks found by using correlation equipment and identifying exact location and depth of leak to minimize expenditures of personnel, equipment, and hours to make the repairs. Page 2

3 JOB REQUIREMENTS: ormal Education / Knowledge Experience Certification and Other Requirements Reading Math Writing Managerial Budget Responsibility Supervisory / Organizational Control Complexity JOB REQUIREMENTS Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Over four years up to and including six years in Public Works- Water/Wastewater Valid Texas Class A Driver's License with Tankers Endorsement, Class C Water Distribution License and Class II Wastewater Collections License. Prefer Class B Water and Class III Wastewater Collections Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and selfstudy. Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Receives limited direction: The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically. Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or a work unit including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. A first line supervisor typically performs these functions. Work requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties.
