1 Class Title: LSA Status: Non-Exempt BRIE DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to oversee field operations for the monitoring of water quality in the City in accordance with the Clean Water Act and The Safe Drinking Water Act. This is accomplished by completing household hazardous waste collection; performing compliance monitoring; overseeing water and pretreatment field operations; performing cross connection inspections; and inspecting swimming pools. Other duties include completing administrative duties; and interacting with other City employees and citizens. ESSENTIAL UNCTIONS: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent. Exerting lbs. frequently, or up to 10 Exerting lbs. frequently, or up to Exerting over 100 lbs. occasionally, lbs. frequently, or up to # Code Essential unctions 1 M Completes household hazardous waste collection by assisting HAZMAT Specialist with complaints, special projects and/or scheduled household hazardous waste collection days; providing technical and structural input; and assessing over pack and transport hazardous waste. 2 H Performs compliance monitoring by collecting water, wastewater, storm water, complaint samples, and soil samples according to the Clean Water Act and The Safe Drinking Water Act of the federal code of regulations; assisting the Specialist inspect industry; and providing mechanical or technical assistance as needed. 3 M Oversees water and pretreatment field operations by training personnel in the daily field operations of sample collection, equipment use and maintenance, and inventory control; providing support in advanced situation during daily activity; assisting in the scheduling of field operations; writing notices of violations as necessary; directing environmental technicians in their daily duties; overseeing warehouse and inventory; and calibrating meters and equipment. 4 M Performs cross connection inspections and testing by sampling point inspections; inspecting water resources for possible pollutants or hazards; testing backflow devices; conducting further inspections; and insuring appropriate installation of C.C. valves and sample points. 2 5 L Inspects swimming pools by inspecting for compliance under Texas Health Code; testing waters for chemical and structural requirements; ensuring pumps and motors are properly installed and operational; ensuring availability of all safety equipment; and investigating complaints. 6 S Completes administrative duties by updating pretreatment and water distribution databases daily; compiling and reviewing pretreatment analysis; preparing frequent reports; creating and implementing standard operating procedures for pretreatment. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Over one year up to and including two years. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License, Water Distribution Class D, 40- Hour Backflow Prevention Device Testing, Texas Department of Health Pesticide Applicator, and Operator of Aquatic acilities. Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and selfstudy. Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
