21 Implementation of Regulations Pretreatment standards are mass limits (production-based) ph limits of 6.0 to 9.0 [40 CFR ] Part 420 regulates discharges of process wastewater generated in all production operations Co-treating non-process wastewater is allowed in some circumstances [40 CFR (r)] Additional pollutant allowances for non-process wastewater [40 CFR ]

24 Other Special Conditions Subpart A: Cokemaking Subpart B: Sintering Additional loading allowance for wastewaters from specific processes (see and ). No discharge of process wastewater pollutant to POTWS from non-recovery cokemaking processes. No discharge of process wastewater pollutants to the POTWs from dry air pollution control systems. The pretreatment standards for cyanide and phenols apply only when sintering wastewater is cotreated with ironmaking wastewater. Special compliance monitoring point for 2,3,7,8- TCDF. Ammonia limit is not applicable if POTW has nitrification capabilities.

25 Other Special Conditions Subpart C: Ironmaking Subpart D: Steelmaking Subpart J: Cold Forming Subpart L: Hot Coating) Subpart M: Other Operations The iron blast furnace ammonia limit is not applicable if POTW has nitrification capabilities. No discharge of process wastewater pollutants from the electric arc furnace steelmaking-semi-wet process and the basic oxygen furnace steelmakingsemi-wet process. Limitations for chromium and nickel are applicable only if cold forming wastewaters are treated with descaling or combination acid pickling wastewaters. Limitations for hexavalent chromium is applicable only to galvanizing operations which discharge wastewaters from the chromate rinse step. No discharge of process wastewater pollutants to POTWs from the briquetting operation.
