7 First Nations Partnerships Capital Power focuses on long-term business and community relationships Held extensive discussions with Treaty 8 First Nations about participation in the construction of Quality Wind. Aboriginal procurement processes for qualified companies for 1) site clearing and logging; and 2) civil work. Contracts awarded to six aboriginal companies. First Nations Companies provided a significant portion of the labour during construction. 8 First Nations A case for partnership Local expertise, local knowledge Joint venture between Duz Cho Construction (McLeod Lake Indian Band) and Dunne-za Ventures (West Moberly First Nations) to build roads on the southern portion of the QWP. Extensive experience in civil construction and environmental services, and possess a deep knowledge and understanding of local conditions. Project team also worked with Kinuseo, Sipughma, Paul Paquette & Sons, 4Evergreen McLeod Lake Indian Band and Duz Cho Construction are proud to be part of this project as it will create more environmentally responsible electric power for British Columbia. Capital Power values corporate integrity and community responsibility; Mortenson Construction Canada is a world leader in wind farm development. 9 Highlights: Community engagement Substantial direct local investment with Tumbler Ridge businesses Strong project support from municipality and district We like to see companies getting involved and realizing what are the important things in the community. 20 year Tumbler Ridge resident Dr. Charles Helm They (industry) have to take ownership in the community and help the district build a sustainable community for the long term. It s one thing for jobs and taxes, but involvement in the community itself, having workers here, putting buildings and an office in place and having a presence that s critical.
